the league is all about "all -stars", and everything they do is about the "all-star" team...which is despicable. Youth baseball is supposed to be about all the players, not just the all -stars. there is very little fundamentals taught, and there is no emphasis on sportsmanship. The whole league is just promoting the so-called "star players" and developing the all-star team. glad my kids are grown, and we no longer have to go there.
of course, the same can be said about a lot of leagues...
This is the case with most of the leagues in the area now. East Daviess County blew up their Little League and moved about a third of the kids to Yellow Creek Park, in an effort to have a little league team to compete with Southern. All that did was make EDC weaker and forced the rest of the county teams to go to Cal Ripken. That said, Cal Ripken, has some of the same elements, coaches, or board members that are more interested in All-Stars than teaching basic fundementals, sprotsmanship and just letting the kids play and have fun. This has gotten worse over the last several years and from what I see , will continue. All you can do, is let your kids play, don't get into the drama, and teach your kids to be good sports, ethical and of good moral character. They may not be an all-star or on the "championship" team, but they will enjoy it and it will help them to be well rounded and prepare them in their journey through life.

The new board members aren't posted on the website. but from what I can tell from last years members, there isn't 75% of them that come from Owensboro's wealthy. Maybe 2 or 3 have money. If you call owning a small home having money, then maybe closer to 75%.

Is anyone upset at the way Jack Hamilton was treated on election day? The man has been there over 35 years and was just blindsid. No respect whatsoever for all his years of service.

I am not justifying the boards actions at all....the man has served Southern for many years. He remembers just about every kid that has played in those 35 years to this day. He was a good man...but with that said, at some point you have to realize when you have taken something as far as you can take it. New ideas and approaches are needed to improve some of the issues that southern has. Yes, I agree he shouldn't have been blind sided, but everything changes...eventually.

I have been a coach at southern for five yrs. there was no blindsiding anyone. He was beaten in a legal vote. We have our elections every yr. jack was great for southern and I enjoy him a lot. But he has held southern back the last couple of yrs. he would not let a lot of improvements be done because it wasn't his idea. Jack will be remember for all the good he has done there over many many yrs. but there needed to be a change.

I would like to know what exactly happened that day because that does bother me. I have great respect for Jack.

What kind of improvements? How do you feel he has held Southern back as you say?

Jack as president was telling everyone the voting would take place 11am - 4pm in order to give everyone enough tim to come over and vote, but the board decided to only allow voting from 1-2. Do you know how many people that kept from voting? By doing that the board could ensure the ones they wanted in office got in because they were the only one who knew the voting time.

That's real dirty. But not surprising.

Jack knew the ins and outs of keeping a program sound, both fiscally, and with the right "purpose"

what a shame
He fought hard for that program, put in countless hires working, and made it strong for many many years. He knew that parents come and go, some with "grandiose" plans that would not be supported or paid for, and brought long term stability. it is pathetic how a "few" can come in and try to take over, then leave. Sorry Jack, you got screwed, as did all the others that are part of this program.

The funny thing is the voting took place all day sat. I know of many people even voting on Friday night.

Voting Sat was not supposed to start until 1 and ended at 2, on Friday night the ballots did not even have all of the names of people running for office... so there should not have been any voting Friday night.

This was by far the most shady under-handed election, ever, bar none! Why don't you do yourself a favor & go to the Official Little League website and READ what the guidelines are for a Little League election before you speak! Here are but a few of the stipulations which I know for a fact were disregarded: ALL adult members must be informed that the election is coming up (you can't tell them its coming then move it for a week later with NO notice at all, obviously by the wonderful turn out of FUN DAY this was not done, possibly 35 of the 300 plus members were even in attendance)! In a well run league (ha that's comical) at least a 10 day notice is given with date TIME and place (not say it's going to be held at FUN DAY then move that date the night before & tell no one, then limit the voting on that day to ONE hour which absolutely NO ONE except for the select few who were there that you wanted to know), absentee voting should be made available to all members (you know in case that can't make that ONE HOUR you've illegally set), a quorum HAS to be present if not the election CANNOT be held & must rescheduled (this one rule should make the entire vote illegal), nominees must receive at least 51% of votes in order to be voted in, EVERY regular member in good standing receives a ballot (HA, what a joke I know of a family who showed up 15 minutes after the unknown 1-hr time frame who were turned away, I mean they only paid $125 for that treatment), membership votes to approve the results of the election (hilarious), the President is to be the most informed officer in the League (NOT THE VP and all his little groupies)JACK, who if you didn't realize is our current PREZ, had no clue the time had been changed to ONE hour when they were aware he was working mandatory overtime! This was beyond shameful and everyone of this little clique' should be ashamed of their behavior! Fear not INDIANAPOLIS will be hearing about the politics of the notorious Southern Little Leage, I'm embarrassed to be associated with this group, there is no excuse! But hey, keep talking coach, I bet you get a team next year too!

This COACH is an idiot, he doesn't know the rules of a Little League election, he just kissing what he can so that big VP won't blackball him like he did JACK! Most of the board mtgs didn't even include the board, only a couple who made most all of the decisions this season, so if they were bad decisions, fault those 2!

Jack has done more for Southern than anyone. Its shamefully that most of these parents are in clicks. Their children deserve to play and practice as much as the coaches "future all stars". They pick those kids up early in the season and have special practices with them and then cancel regular practice. Ive been on both sides of the story. My youngest was treated horribly because he was overweight and didn't really wanna play but did because he wanted to be like his big brother who, and I'm ashamed to say this, was treated like gold. The eldest was a FANTASTIC player because he lived for baseball. The clicks need to dissipate and Southern rethink their actions and remember, THESE ARE KIDS THAT JUST WANNA PLAY BASEBALL!!!!!

The 1 - 2 voting timeframe was NOT a board decision, most of the board had no clue either, that decision was again made by the VP and his groupies who have run this league all season! He has to be the powerful VP since Dick Cheney....money money money...UR FIRED!!!

Who is the vice president? And who are his clique members? Just curious...
