Did everyone know SLL had their election yesterday fot the 2013 Board of Directors? I bet you didn't know because I didn't either. Funny how a select few did know and how a certian group was elected. Get this! Voting was from 1-2 only. I paid $125 for my child to play there and I didn't even have an opportunity to vote. Southern once again has taken 3 steps back and we will return to the Catholic league next year. Good riddance SLL and all you elitist!

I can assure u I am not an elitist at SLL, this is my child's 3rd season there and he is an average player. I only know a handful of coaches personally, the ones my child has played for and a few others, that are not well liked by the board. I was aware that elections were yesterday. Elections were held on family fun day, which I believe was the same day they held them last year. I have a feeling if you would spend more time listening to your child's coach when he makes announcements and less time throwing a fit because things aren't being done to your liking....you may have known.

My kids played there for 9 years. It's slowly getting worse every year. I'm so glad were paying other places now. Jack knows what needs to be done there but the board has their own agenda for their own kids benefit. Been that way for years.

No, I did not. I couldn't even tell who the current board members are. I've never had any issues with anyone at SLL. My son has had awesome coaches. I didn't see an issue with the way they played their kids. Maybe I should have gone and voted but it doesn't really matter to me. I was just wondering who the new ones were out of curiosity, there are some coaches down there I wouldn't want my kid to play for, but I'll cross thAt bridge if I get there.

I have kids that play there & more that will be soon enough--we love it there. Yeah, some people piss us off & there are certain ones who act like they are better than everyone else--but that is everywhere. The good definitely outweighs the bad. I don't know everyone who got elected yet & I feel sad for Jack because he has been there for so long, but if you have a problem, play somewhere else. Then start a thread on here about that place when it pisses you off too. Grow up & get over it. Yes, I did know when voting was bc I LISTEN when my kid's coach tells us stuff & we also received a reminder text from him--maybe instead of getting on here & whining u should take it up with ur kids coach. Or work on ur listening skills. I have to say, although I hate to hear SLL will lose a player next year, if the parent is a whiny a$$ like u, see ya bye!

Both of my boys played there when they were of age. SLL is nothing but political. My oldest they treated like gold my younger was treated like shit by all his coaches. The board members don't give a shit about most of the kids there. Just a handful of them. And they treat the ones with the most $$$$ like they already play in the MLB. I understand your frustration but it has and will continue to be nothing but politics until they allow some of the not so fortunate parents on the board that cares about the kids not just what the kids parents can do for Southern.

Well, actually ur statement should make the complaining parents feel better bc now it's different people that were elected so the past board members are out. And I have to say this--and I'm not referring to when ur kids played bc mine are young so probably totally different board members during ur time--but I know who these people are complaining about & a lot of the animosity starts with the parents bc they go into it expecting the worst. We are not rich by any means. Our kids started out knowing nothing. Some of the ones that "run Southern" are the very ones who were so patient & taught EVERY kid on their team each season to play & have good sportsmanship. They are also the same ones who know the names of every kid that plays there & never misses an opportunity to speak or to stop & watch a game & cheer on their former players. If u go into a situation expecting the worst, that's all ur going to oerceive that ur getting. There have been some a$$hole coaches, don't get me wrong, but SLL is about the kids.

The league actually is run really well. The problem we had was that my son had a coach that didn't teach the kids basic fundamentals and skills. My son wasted a whole season or two with those type of coaches. Luckily he got a coach last year that worked with all kids and he finally realized he was very good at baseball and so did we. It is sad at any league when coaches think that kids in little league don't need to be taught any more. I wish leagues would emphasize that coaches should teach all players the skills, not just work with the ones that are "good" players. It was painful to watch every practice consist of waiting your turn to hit a bucket of balls or running all over the outfield to shag fly balls. This one coach never taught any defensive skills in any practice. Not once did they have a practice to work on defense the whole season!

My son played there for 5 years. He was always one of the best players and received lots of compliments. He was told he would make all stars by his coach but when all stars were announced he was left out but another kid from our team who was an ok player made it. His dad had lots of money and we don't. The following year my son had a coach that wouldn't even play him because he wasn't an all star. That coach didn't return the following year but neither did we. It is definitely political!

VERY political....just look up the board members on their website. Seventy-five percent of them are Owensboro's wealthy individuals....

It is political. But really they all are. Here's the problem. Parents! Some won't get involved at all, won't help with anything. Then you have the others, they are involved, but it is only about a select few.... All-stars...it's all about winning, they make it about themselves and not the kids. Every league does this to some extent. It is sad, just quit manipulating this stuff and let kids play ball! Always bending rules in their favor, it's ridiculous. They never stop to think what are they teaching these kids????

the league is all about "all -stars", and everything they do is about the "all-star" team...which is despicable. Youth baseball is supposed to be about all the players, not just the all -stars. there is very little fundamentals taught, and there is no emphasis on sportsmanship. The whole league is just promoting the so-called "star players" and developing the all-star team. glad my kids are grown, and we no longer have to go there.

of course, the same can be said about a lot of leagues...
