There were rumors that a female student hanged herself in the 3rd floor restroom at Massie Hall. The sorority suites were on that floor when I attend and we were told the restroom was haunted...I never saw anything peculiar. It was just creepy from being dark and quiet most of the time.

Wasn't a man murdered there in 02? That former principal wasn't he found there? He was killed by some drifter who also shot and killed the store clerk at the liquor store on 4th, i think.

You do find handprints on your trunk too. But the only reason you do is because they are your handprints. Your hand leaves oil behind when you shut ur trunk and the Powder sticks to and the rest blows off.

I've never thought of that. Makes sense though. I've heard of a couple different places where there is supposedly handprints if you put baby powder on your trunk.

Longfellow Hill is where teens would make out during OHS football games back in the 80's. Mary Owen, 15, was murdered and sexually assaulted in 1974 behind that school by 3 males. Longfellow has been torn down and OPS has reconstructed that hill. Many ghost tales were told through the years regarding that sad tragedy.

Ben hawes is haunted... The railroad tracks are haunted. If you park there you can hear all sorts of things on the tracks. & a woman hung herself or was hung there on the tree as you go towards the back of the park, it's a limb straight across. My dad was a state trooper when that happened bc he got called out to it so that would've been in the 70s-80s. Also a woman was found dead on medley rd back then too.

I was a kid (7th grade) when the Longfellow incident happened. Everyone was really scared for awhile, because there were threats that more girls would be murdered, which didn't happen. I knew Mary's brother. He was a year older than me. This murder happened on Easter sunday of that year. It was early April. I haven't heard any of the ghost stories. What are some of them?? I've always wondered whether there were any stories associated with that incident....I do know that a doctor here in town who was mentioned at the time as one of the suspects, committed suicide in 1991 and it was rumored that he left a suicide note on his computer stating that he couldn't live with his guilt over that incident. He was in high school when it happened, I believe.

The house you mentioned on Frederica was the Orrahood house. I always heard they had a son that committed suicide there or on the property somewhere.

No, I remember it was 02 because I had just had my first child a few days before and I was still in the hospital when the liquor store incident happened.

I have heard that about the mall, too, and that it is centered around the bathroom area. I've been to that area before and I, personally, didn't get a weird vibe. Thats not saying others don't pick up on something. I can remember before the mall as there and it was just farm land. I don't know if there was something on that spot way before I can remember, however.

Owensboro - Ben Hawes State Park - A girl who was accused of witchcraft in the 18th century was burned at the stake in the woods. If you up there at night you can see her ghost walking and the light of the torches of the people who came to burn her.
Owensboro - Catherine Spalding Elementary School - In 1896 when the school was first built, it was made mostly of farmer's daughters because the boys never went to school. In 1899 the school was destroyed by a small tremor from the fault in Missouri. Two girls died when the school fell to the ground. In 1901 they rebuilt the school but over top of the old school (because it was so small) they built an art building. Still today the art building is haunted by the two girls who at night have been known to mess up the art room and when morning comes the room is a mess.
Owensboro - Fordsville - Deanefield - During the Civil War, confederate soldiers hiding from the Yankees used a small cliff cave to hide out. It is said that the Yankees ambushed the southern soldiers, killing them all. On summer nights of the full moon, shots can be heard as well as sounds of laughter, a fire crackling, and horses galloping. The cliffs can be found off of highway 1414 in Ohio Co, Ky.
Owensboro - Maiden Lake - The woods around the lake where long ago a man and his wife lived. One day he was getting water from his well and fell in it to his death. His wife got the body and buried him. The well is still there and residents have reported there being a man with a bucket and wet standing beside the well.
Owensboro - Owensboro Catholic High School - In 1943 two nuns, who were best friends and were staying in a mutual room, were killed when an unidentified man got into the school one night around midnight and beat them to death with a wooden bat. To this day, you can hear the best friends footsteps and going up and down the stairs and pacing through the halls on the third floor. At night it is said that people have heard screams, as if someone was being brutally beaten.
Owensboro - Owensboro Catholic Middle School - At night, neighbors have reported screams and wicked laughter. They have seen doors flying open and shut as if possessed. There are dark reddish stains that have never come out of the floors in certain rooms.
Owensboro - Owensboro Davies County Public library - an apparition of a boy with high red knee socks, a red vest, very old style shoes, high shorts, and one of those hats you see on many men back in the 20's and 30's.
Owensboro - River Park Center - In 1927 a woman was on the catwalk, she jumped into the river to her death. At night on the catwalk you can see a woman in white, dripping water as she continues to walk over the edge to the river below.
Owensboro - The Old Theater Workshop - In 1809 this theater was a Baptist church. A young priest lived there with his family. His daughter was dating a young man who her father disapproved of. Late one night the daughter came to her father with dreadful news. She told her father she was pregnant. He was so disappointed in her, he told her he never wanted to see her again and sent her away. So the story goes that night she was out of her mind, she ran up to the bell tower and hung herself. Her father was so sad he to killed himself in the basement. With what nobody knows. To this day lights are said to go on and off constantly, the bell rings when there isn't a bell anymore, coldness out of nowhere surrounds you, and if your not careful while standing in front of the basement you just might get pushes as many have before.

Wow! These are great stories! I have worked on productions at Theater Workshop. One time we all were in the auditorium during auditions for a play and we all heard footsteps in the balcony, which was the tech booth. Everybody turned around and there was nobody up there. One time, after I got home from a play and was going to bed, I heard, as plain as day, a female voice at the end of my bed say, HELLO. I jumped up and stood there looking around. Nobody there, of course. I did the haunted tour downtown and the guy leading the tour was talking about Theater Workshop and said some people claim the ghost follows them home and they have heard a female voice saying hello. That amazed me when I heard this, as it was exactly what happened to me! I have been in the basement of TWO looking for props, but I didn't really get a creepy feeling down here. I know there were some people who refused to go down there.
