A lot of jobs will be lost if they do. This economy doesn't need more job losses.

Southwire don't need century. Where building a super melter to melt cold metal so we can cut ties with century. You don't know what your talking about. Century needs Southwire cause there gonna loose a lot of business if we cut ties. Where one of there biggest customers

Just another dumb contractor that thinks they no everything! I couldn't agree with you more I work at century and was pretty upset to hear about south wire putting in them new furnaces. They wouldn't be spending all that money if they planned to keep century

I can spell just fine. I don't need some dumba$$ school boy to tell me shit or to get a real job. I have a good job and prolly make twice the money you make and you went to school and prolly owe thousands in loans and I only work half the year lol

Southwire can buy cold metal a lot cheaper from abroad than buying metal from century just across the parking lot. Southwire wouldn't be spending that money on the new storage/furnace if they expected century to remain open. It is a sad reality than 400+ will be out of a job. There aren't enough jobs around here to replace that. But if I'm century why keep a smelter open here and cost me more, when I can practically run my other smelter free in Iceland??? Business decisions for the company. No concern for the common worker.

I think many of you all have forgotten that over 10 years ago one of the three paper mills closed their doors in Hawesville. Thoses guys went on and so will the Century employees if it closes.

Let me guess.... Century is a Union Plant and Southwire is not? That would explain why Southwire is growing and expanding and making millions while Century is on the brink of demise. Thank you Union! Liberals and Unions are destroying this country.

Century is not closing because of the union, the possibility of it closing is all on poor management. Century has always been the "troubled" plant. You never hear anything out of Southwire & Domtar functions ok, even with a union. Commonwealth or Aleris (whichever it is) & Century always have crap going on. It's ridiculous. Century wants a handout but so do tons of other businesses that aren't going to get one. I hate to see Century close but if they get what they want then how many others are to follow. Big Rivers has attempted to work with them but Century has already listed their terms & will not budge off of that. There's no compromising with that, no meeting in the middle per say. Both parties involved have to be willing to compromise or it just isn't going to work.
