People have to put effort into their own recovery or no program is gonna work. Excuses, excuses...all programs have some problems. If we were all perfect, we wouldn't be in or need recovery.

If he hasnt changed its on him! Not the program! I have known several people that went through the program and have completely turned their lives around!

It is one of the better programs in town but like someone else said its up to the person. They could go to the best place in the world & unless they want to make that change then nothing will work for them.

Friends of Sinners is a cult. Go online and look them up. Check out the participants handbook. They can't even sing songs that aren't religious because they are secular. They can't go to any twelve step meetings. I would not recommend this program to anyone.

FOS is not a joke. The guys are told before they get there that it is 100% Christ centered, meaning they are going to be held to a much higher standard. There are many rules in place that many won't agree with, and that's okay. If they don't want that then they don't have to go. They can just wait for somewhere else to pick them up and take them to a secular program. FOS is more concerned with bringing the guys and girls to a relationship with Christ. They are held accountable for their actions and are taught how to be godly husbands, fathers, and positive members of society. As far as the music goes, you are right, they can not listen to secular filth while in the program. There is no need for that. While FOS is trying to teach these men and women how to be better fathers, mothers, wives, husbands, there is NO NEED to listen to crap on the radio. And as for not being able to go to AA/ NA- they got to celebrate recovery. Celebrate Recovery follows 12 steps. The 12 steps of celebrate recovery have Biblical comparisons. If I had a loved one that needed to go to recovery, I would chose FOS. I know the people. I trust that they are fully committed to Jesus. And as for the success rate, it is extremely high. So just to set the facts straight. :)

I understand u wanting info, but on topix anything that has anything to do w religion or Jesus is stomped on quick. God can change a man's heart tho, things he loved he wil hate n things he hated, like church, bible, Christians whatever he/she comes to love.. I love Jesus, but I smoke weed pretty often n can't ever do both, so I quit n go to church then crap gets bad so I quit church n go to weed.. weird, work it out daily tho right.. jus glad Jesus loves me when I don't deserve it.. good luck to yall..n hope ur group isn't a cult like thing, had enuf of that from that jack Oliver bunch in town, using Gods name to hate ppl. Hope ur not, cuz those r the worse kinds of ppl.

Well i don't know who this oliver person is but you are correct. People rip people off and hurt people all the time "in the name of Jesus". It's sad but true. It sucks for people that do believe because everyone thinks we are all the same, hypocrites.
But as far as things to do with God getting stomped on here at topix, I know that and I am ok, that's just the world we live in. Someone had a question and I answered it honestly.
As for everyone who is about to bash me for saying 'Jesus' on here.... There is a HUGE drug problem in Owensboro, there are families suffering, children being abused and neglected by their parents doing drugs This town is a mess. I mean, let's just face it, everyone in some way is affected by drugs. So even if you don't agree with FOS's christian views and rules, if something is working, then just let it work. Because of friends of sinners, several kids have their daddies and mommies back. Marriages are being restored. Men and women coming out of there learning how to live drug free and GIVE BACK to our community (not just take). So if you hate God then that's your business, but don't knock a program that is devoted to trying to help people and our community.

Probably a good program....don't like the name though. I thought we were all sinners? FOS suggest that only the people in the program are sinners....idk maybe it's just me?

Christians are supposed to try to be like Jesus, that's the goal anyway. Bible says, Jesus came to be a friend of the sinners. To help the lost, and hurt. He didn't come for the people that 'had it all together'. He came for the messed up people. Yes everyone is sinners. I think the name just came from the verse in the Bible. Since the program is 100% Christ centered it makes since to name it friends of sinners, considering that is what Christ really is. But without knowing about the program and their mission statement i can totally see where it does sound like that. It's not just you lol :)

I entered FOS 22 months ago. The ministry is not all centered on being sober. It introduces men to the Truth being Christ. When I had enough and hit bottom with no where else to turn, i was pointd in a direction to Christ. I can say this program has been a life change for me. I have more than just a sobbriety date, I have hope in Jesus.

To make it clear, FOS is a recovery program not a treatment program. ANYONE can start a recovery programs. They don't have to have any credentials to run one. The problem with FOS and the Lighthouse is that the people they put in there have a choice-being locked up or going to their program. To keep from being locked up you will agree to anything. As the "someone" responded to me in my previous post secular music is crap. That means they are taught that all music except religious music is crap and bad. I am not saying that all music is great but to lump all other music as secular and evil is crazy thinking. Think very hard before signing up for this program. Their success rate is not great despite what they may claim.

I am a full believer in people changing their lives around and I am sure the people at FOS believe in what they are doing. HOWEVER, forcing them to step up to be a "father" is not right!! Just because he claims he has "Found Jesus" the people they have emotionally, physically, sexually, and verbally abused are suppose to be comfortable with them around their child?????? I THINK NOT!!!! FOS needs to realise that parenting is NOT something you do just because you HAVE to.... It is a privlage!!!!! My childs father is there because he didn't want to to be in jail... NOT because he has found Jesus. He is manipulating the system and he is manipulating FOS.... OPEN YOUR EYES!!!!

Trust me, they know when they are being manipulative, they were in their shoes one time a day too. You should actually take your concerns to the director/staff if you are really concerned about your baby daddy being around your child. They don't force them to be a dad, its a responsiblity they teach them to step up and be a man. People do change and it truly is possible that your child's father has truly had a life change, but if you don't see the evidence of that in his life, for your child's sake, talk to the staff.
