I think the track should be closed down until the Bleacher's are moved back at least 20ft . And a taller wall is built!! With a new NASCAR approved safety catch fence is put up !!! This is a great track but it needs a few dollars spent to keep the Fans and Drivers SAFE!!!!! And why race this weekend? What's it going to prove? No one should be allowed against the wall!! Look at Cedar Ridge, Nebo , Kentucky motor Speedway , and the old Central Park McHenery all of these track the bleachers are not that close to the wall. Shut this track down in the name of SAFETY!!! I love this track and I want everyone to be safe enjoying what we all like to do !! Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings (not really ) Ryan didn't half to Die . Shut it down until its safer we can't afford to lose anyone else thank's

Thank you for being nice about mentioning him. I think they need to do exactly what you say. No one else should have to worry about a loss like this or if time one will be hurt.

I agree totally!! but racing is never gonna be completely accident free !!!
My cousin went to the Daytona NASCAR race and was sitting on the front row , behind the safer Barrier wall and fence & got hit by a engine that nearly killed her !! Don't get me wrong I agree NO ONE else should get killed but just saying no matter what up grades you do to a track your still gonna have your accidents !!
Please don't take this the wrong way !!
Just plainly stating no matter what safety Precautions you have in place !! Accidents are still gonna happen !!

A new an improved up to date fence is all that place needs. The fence is junk and has been for years! Maybe some of the big money people who race can help along with all the fans and collect money to get a better fence!

The bleachers need to be replaced too!!

I'm not sure a stronger fence would have prevented Sundays tragedy. That car was moving fast and hard- it would have barreled thru most any fence. I believe the key to better safety is to rope the area off. No one needs to be standing on the fence. The bleachers are too close as it is (people get hit with debris off the track all the time) but standing on the fence line anywhere should be banned

Been going there for years and the announcers have to tell them every weekend,"no one next to the fence!" They never listen!! How about this, everyone want safer stands, walls and catch fence....pay $12-15 general admission so they can afford this stuff and everyone would b!tch about it!!! It takes money to run a track and when they raised admission prices everyone cried about it!!!!

I've been saying for years the need to revise the fence! A few years back an Emod came through the fence and now this. Luckily no one was seriously injured last time but now some were. It's time to do something regardless of the cost. There's too many kids out there to have to worry about this shit

You said cars get faster every year and track needs to improve with the cars. It cost money but you wanna raise the price temporarily??!!
Well quite obviously permanently raising price didn't show to be of any improvement. We paid more yet no inprovements were made. I could see paying more permanently if we could see that upkeep was being done and improvements were being made. Not to be rude but I for one do not want to pay more for nothing to be done and just to put money in someones pocket. Would you?

I'm guessing you think that all the money from general admission and pit passes goes straight in the pockets of whomever is running the show?! I'm guessing you've never been a business person! Let me educate you...... Overhead= an ongoing expense to run a business. Then there is purse money to drivers. Maybe you should step in the person or persons running the shows shoes because I'm guessing they aren't getting rich!!!

Well you sir are just so very smart. Apparently you are one of those that seem to not know the term upkeep. That track is undoubtedly dilapidated. And if you are such a savvy business person maybe you should teach them to figure cost to maintain, payouts, etc... then after doing that figure the cost to update the track. Take an average figure of how many people typically attend on an average race day. Then come to a price to charge in which allows for all of above to be met. If that price exceeds what people will pay, then shut it down. Period. I am not saying they are getting rich you fool, I'm simply stating do not run a business if you cannot afford to keep it up properly. A half a** job is what leads to accidents.

The best cost effective improvement they can make at Windy Hollow is to bulldoze the whole thing.

I love racing, its a fun & exciting sport that my family has enjoyed for years. But I would have to agree the bleachers and the track could use some work. I worry constantly about someone falling thru the bleachers like they did last summer. Or the debree coming from the track, hitting someone. I am sure if the entry fee went up a little and we seen improvements then I am sure there would be less griping.

I've been going to windy hollow since before most out there were even born! I love that track but I think the horrible tragedy that happened Sunday is going to bring all there issues with safety in the media spot light! Safety should be number one there are lots of children at this track every weekend and we have to keep them safe! I have personally saw someone fall through a bleacher a couple weeks ago! I know it's a business but I have owned a business and my first priority is safety! I was at the track Sunday and watched first hand as this horrible tragedy unfolded and I just had one question that's been eating at me when the car hit the utility pole, why is it that the lease holder of the track had to kill power to those lights! I've asked several electricians that question they all said the same thing! I think maybe some further inspections need to be made on the track before they reopen Sunday! I don't know about anyone else but I think some calls need to made! I just want my favorite dirt track to feel safe again like it used to before things started to go down hill!

Agreed! My daughter last year was hit in the head with a large piece of brick. It was horrifying of course I know head wounds bleed profusely but none the less scary. We have to keep these kids safe!

I agree everyone should watch there kids out there we all know the dangers! And every parent should help there smaller children down those bleachers! I know some boards have been replaced but tons more need help. I noticed that the fence that curves outward toward the track was missing! That in itself seems unsafe may e if that was back up it would keep rocks and other things from coming over into the crowd!

I hate to say this because I love that track I grew up on it but maybe it's time for it to have a complete overhaul or suffer the same fate as McHenry! The fact that McHenry closed should be an eye opener that no matter how great you think your track is there is always someone else higher that can shut you down! The real owners could just decide enough is enough and just bull doze it!

Bull doze it?? Did you really say bull doze it? There is no way that tight wad would ever do that!!! Everyone of the past promoters have tried to get the owners to help out with the upkeep of the track!! That's why that track is turning to shit!! The owner isn't going to spend nothing on it! And the people leasing it sure ain't cause in the end all the money put in goes back to the owner of the track. You can't blame either one if its not mine 100% why would I sink in a crap load of money to fix somebody else track up. And maybe take a chance of the owner kicking me out to reap the rewards? But all bitching aside Windyhollow needs a new reinforced catch fence!!! And move the bleacher back 20 ft and charge $10.00 stands and $25.00 pits. Idk I just Pray nothing like this past Sunday ever happens again.parents please set your kids down!! Or leave them home!! And guys please stay away from the fence!!! It's not worth it.
