Idk who owns it but you've got the piece of crap part right. A city this size should be able to support a good mall.

Lexington's mall is amazing... hell so is Evansville.... just about the city and the tourist commission and who promotes the positive aspects of moving a store in here. Seems the bigwigs if the boro arent too concerned with growth. Its why BG has surpassed us in population the last few years.

Our mall has always been a joke from day 1. The big name stores carry less than half of what other stores in Evansville and Bowling Green carry. There was an article one time in the paper about it. These are called "B" stores. The idiots in charge need to quit worrying about downtown now and concentrate on getting better paying jobs and more big name retail stores in Owensboro, cause as of right now, people don't shop downtown or shop at our mall. Evansville and Bowling Green are each only an hour or less drive, that's where I spend my money.

Evansville and Lexington are more then twice the size of Owensboro.

Towne Square Mall was built around 78 or 79 and at the time was considered a big deal. What the mall lacked in terms of what current malls have is a food court. Eastland Mall in Evansville and Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green both have food courts. Also it's hard to compare Owensboro to Evansville and Lexington because their populations are significantly larger. Especially Lexington with a metro population of around 400,000 I believe.

There are two major reason for Bowling Green growing larger than Owensboro. The first, and most important is Interstate 65. You cant put a pricetag on the economic impact of an interstate highway system going through your town. This is the reason that little ole Paducah has twice the hotel rooms that Owensboro has. Travelers stop, shop, and eat. The second reason for BG growing past O'boro is they have a major 4 year public university in WKU. That puts around 20,000 extra people in your town every year who make connections and may want to develop roots in BG.

So before you bash the people that own Towne Square Mall (I don't know them) you have to look at profit margins, volume of sales, and traffic counts. Do all these factors justify niche stores that you can't find in Owensboro? Do these add up to a major renevation of Towne Square Mall or a new one all together? I think by the lack of anything new on that front, the answer is a resounding no.

First the rent is way to high! You can ask any mall employee and they will tell you that. Second why put a good store in a mall that is failing fast? Yes putting big stores in there would bring more people in but a company isn't going to put a store in there if other stores show they don't make money. Need to take it down and build a strip mall.

Well put. Your last paragraph really sums it up. No one in their right mind wants to open a store that isn't likely to survive. That's really all that it boils down to.

I was not bashing anyone. I simply stated both towns are significantly larger, giving an explanation why our mall doesn't add up. But thank you for repeating what i said in a long drawn out explanation.

A big problem with Towne Square Mall is the kids. Lazy parents who want kids then don't want to take care of them when they outgrow the cute baby stage, drop them at the mall Friday night, from open to close Saturday & Sunday. Stores can't make money from all the shoplifting & nobody wants to try to shop with a mall full of unruly kids their own parents don't want to take care of. My vote is to close it down too.

You just stated an obvious fact with zero explanation. The previous guy actually had a great post that explained reasons for our current crappy mall. From reading the first four or five post from ignorant people just ranting, it looked like his post was very much needed.

But you get on someone who is just answering the previous four post? You stated you had already explained everything in your one sentence post.
You are the classic Topix moron. Complain and act like you know everything about everything but really are clueless. Read some and maybe you can post more than useless one liners. Have a good day moron

He quoted me and said I was bashing people. I have not complained at all. The previous posters were comparing our malls to ones in much larger cities. I simply gave them the information that those cities are twice the size. If you can't figure out tha you can't compare the two with that information that's not my fault.

How have I acted like I know everything? Your the one attacking me acting like you know me. Only simple minded ignorant people make snap judgements like that.

This issue is people go to other cities to buy stuff and return it here. Most of the stores here do significantly more returns from other stores than other places. So next time you go to another city and shop at a store we have in owensboro you are part of the problem.
