Age 28. I have enough to pay bills for 1 month and enough for my health/house/car insurance deductible in case of emergency.
My 401k is about 4k.
Debt is about 90,000 and only includes a car loan and mortgage.

Age 28. No savings yet, but that is my number one goal this year. Debt is my mortgage, student loans, and a small credit card, about $100k.

I'm 26. I have no debt. I have enough saved to live fairly comfortably for one year with no income, about 25,000$. I own my house and vehicles outright, so I don't have many bills, so 25,000$ should easily last a year. My goal is to save enough for five years with no income.

I've had a job since I was 14. I saved at least 50% of each check through high school. During the summer I filled in at two other jobs, so that helped. Now I have my own business and I work part time as a receptionist. The receptionist position pays very well, but is only temporary. I got an amazing deal on my house, and it's a very small house, only two bedrooms, and it's just small all around. It also required some fixing up when I got it. I bought my vehicles one at a time, I always buy used, never ever ever brand new. They are nice but nothing spectacular. Toyotas. They don't require much in the way of repairs, so that helps save money in the long run. I am cheap. Really cheap. I make everything I can myself, and if I can't make it I try to buy used. I do not like to pay more than I feel like something is worth. I also don't impulse buy. I plan to shop ahead of time, plan what I'm going to spend, and don't take any more money than that with me. About the only things I splurge on are boots, yarn, books and traveling. I try not to have too much stuff. My house is tiny, so that helps because it just won't hold much! Lol! Stuff costs, and if I don't need it, I think about it for a day or two before I buy it. That's pretty much it. Be cheap, make your own stuff, buy used when you can, work hard and don't waste money. I don't have the latest and greatest stuff. I don't usually buy name brand. But I have what I need and a little extra.

oh and stay far far away from credit cards. They will get you broke real fast. And vehicle loans. Try to buy outright, even if the car you get isn't exactly what you want. You can always trade up in a year or two.

Curious what the average family of 4 brings in per year here in Owensboro. I see people driving $40k cars all the time, and wonder if they live in cheap apartments or have no savings, or do they just make THAT much money? I make right at 100k per year, and I drive old vehicles (10-12 years old). I can't see paying 700 a month on a vehicle-that's more than my house payment!
