Has anyonwe been to our new ER, and been told that your loved ones are not able to go back with you while your are in the RME (Rapid Medical Evaluation). I feel like this is wrong, and they are not using the RME as it is intended. Apparently, if you are sent back to RME, you are supposed to be able to get in and out of there in 30 minutes.......this is not the case. All the while, your spouse or family memebr is not allowed in there. I am currently trying to find out about this RME and its requirements. I am going to call the ED manager in the morning and ask about this policy of no visitors. Others should call too!! My spouse has always been there for me during all of my illnesses, and to not let him come back, is putting even more stress on me as a sick patient. Any thoughts?

oh, and the staff will tell you no visitors because of privacy of other pts. That is an unacceptable answer!! Privacy is WORSE back there. I was in the same room with a person who came back in holding her pee specimen. Also, I can tell you about her insurance, and her tests she had....as well as the guy next to me......I knew his name, and other info.......so saying it is due to pt privacy is a farce.

As a matter of fact, there was blood smeared on the bedside table when I went in there. I had almost forgotten about that. I am gonna tell that to the manager as well

The entire new hospital is a joke. We didnt need a new hospital. We needed smarter people to run it.

I was able to go back with my 3 yr old. But they only allow one parent! My daughter wanted both parents back there and they made us continuously swap out over the course of about 3 hours in that little room

for the record. ive been to that er several times as a visitor. as far as I can tell that rme area is for patients that dont need to be there or are their for their convenience or have minor ailments bothering them. There isnt enough chairs back there to house the visitors along with patients so pretty simple rule. no visitors. more patients. I dont know if your family really needs to hold your hand for a runny nose or a cough but im sorry that most people think they need the er for every little thing that happens. I say they do a great job helping the critically ill and injured.sorry if that interferes with your visit but if I came in as a patient id be glad they were taking care of the sick people first. I say kudos to er. they do a great job

Obviously there's rules in place for a damn good reason. If your loved one is that "bad off", chances are they need to be stabilized before the whole family comes piling in. Respect the medical personnel. They're only doing what's necessary to keep your loved one alive.

Well, if they used the RME the way it is supposed to be used, they would get those with the stuffy noses out of there in 30 minutes,(as intended for correct RME use) I have had a couple of heart attacks and blood clots, and my leg was red and swollen....I was sent there without my husband. Yes, I do need him to hold my hand because I am afraid of another heart attack or blood clot!!! How about someone who had a heat stroke at work, and hit the ground hard from passing out....AND doesnt remember any of the circumstances. Yep, RME for 3 hours, no family allowed...not even one person. I dont have any little ones anymore, but when my kids were little they wanted us BOTH there!!! I am not putting down the workers at all. I have a problem with the whole way the RME is being used. Even forget about the fact that you want a loved one back there, there is NO PRIVACY AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!

I was there recently. They were understaffed or something. I sat in the RME for three hours before a bed became available. I was havin pain that radiated up my back an into my chest. I sat in a chair in so much pain it physically made me I'll on top of things. It took an hour for the doctor to see me and another hour for someone to get blood from me. I saw no one between those times. One person in a bed was just there with a headache. When I dd finally get a bed, I passed many empty rooms. It also took another two hours to get antibiotics once the doctor returned with a diagnosis. They need to get it together there.

I work there and it may be more useful to make a phone call rather than complain on a useless site. You passed empty rooms that were shut down. Rooms get shut down after certain times because the shift changes and the nurse is off duty. The people in ER are very nice and actually try unlike the other hospital. And the doctors there may be busy with someone in worse health, rather than a stuffy nose or cough, like a car wreck, heart attack, or a fall of an elder. So be more considerate of others and stop complaining that busy people don't stop doing what they NEED to, to serve you.

As for the no visitor rule, there is only one chair per RME. It gets crowded. Remember that there are other sick people who need to sit as well

You did not address the fact that some people are in the RME for 3 hours. Isn't the whole purpose of it is to be seen quickly. Also, management should make sure there is enough staff to cover RME AND the ER beds. I was put in a chair, and another pt next to me in a chair......no partition......what about privacy? yes, it is effective to make a call, but I also wanted to find out others experiences. Shouldnt the ER have enough PRN staff to cover when the pt load is heavy/ My questions are valid!!

Instead of complaining find a new hosp if you dont like it. Stuff happens. They cannot predict with total accuracy how many snot nosed pansies will come in on a given day. And to the moron who said we didnt need another hospital um fyi when it rained the 2nd floor ceiling leaked, mold was all over the place, and elevators did not go to all the floors. I am happy to have a state of the art hospital instead of a run down moldy building.

I had a family member who had trama to her face. she came in with a wash rag she put on her face from home. After 7 hours she wasn't ever offered a clean towel. After me basically showing my ass they finally took care of her. She received more than 11 stitches total. The dr. was really good but as far as anyone checking on her or keeping us informed why it was taking so long I have no idea. I got a survey but I am too pissed to fill it out. going to try to call patient advocate this week. .

Well it was a little over a year ago with my experience and my family was furious. After a few hours of requesting pain meds for my father they kept saying one minute,we finally told them we was giving him Some ourselves and then they came right in and gave him some. And then after we ended having to change his bedding ourselves.after several request. Dr left us sitting there for several hours didn't come in to talk to us about anything we went to go find the dr and they told us we arent allowed finally about 12 hours they sent him to a different hospital. I will be going to Evansville for now on.
