I was stopped for a traffic violation and was treated like a common criminal. Ask them what the problem was and was told I ran a stop sign. I will add that there was two police, in two cars. Before they had got to the car, I already had my billfold out, one hand on it and the other on my drivers license. He ask if I had any guns on me, I said yes and that I had a Concealed Deadly Weapons License. I then handed both to him. He ask me what I had and where it was and I told him. He ask where I was coming from, I told him Walmart, from picking up my meds. I reached for the bag, with the receipt and showed it to him. Then he wanted to know if I was on any drugs that would impair my driving, I told him no. He told me to hold on a minute and then came back and asked me to step out of the car. After that, they said they were going to go a head and take my weapon, for their safety and mine. He then gave me the "follow the finger test" which I passed and told me to go a head and get back in the vehicle and to go a head and holster my weapon. I did all this and went to light a cigarette, they were laying on the dash and was told not to. When I ask why, I was told for his safety as well as mine. They or should I say the other officer came back with my ticket and explained how to take care of it and that I could take off when I was ready. Now, how was it for his and my safety not to light my cigarette, in my car? How was it for his and MY SAFETY, to take my weapon? I went through the proper steps to get my Concealed Permit, so that I could protect myself. Now they could say, they don't know me or what I might do. I say, I don't know them or what they might do. They ran me through the computer, so they knew as much about me, as I did them. Not only it is a waste of tax payers money to have two officers and two police cars, pull me over, it's also a slap in the face to tell me it's for my safety for them to take my weapon. I pack my weapon for MY SAFETY! Why not put two officers in one car and save the tax payers money? Why become a cop, if you scared? Once they ran me through the computer, they knew I wasn't a criminal. The way they act, they should pull everyone over, for their safety, to make sure they are kept safe. Fire fighters know the dangers of their jobs, that they might not make it home, at the days end, Police officers should too and they don't have be cops, they wanted to be! On a final note, the fine for running the stop sign, is $20.00 with a $144.00 court cost. If I'm going to be able to pay it with out going to court, why the court cost? Just one more way for the city of Owensboro, to stick it to someone who had a traffic violation.

If you show up to court they'll probably reduce or drop the court costs. And it's standard procedure for them to take your gun until they've determined you aren't a threat or a wanted criminal. Who cares why they said they were taking the gun, it's standard policy to do so. It's not people like you that have made all of these laws necessary, but the people that don't follow them. Just be glad they're patrolling the streets that you drive on and often times finding those that don't need to be among our population.

I Completely understand why you feel the way you do...they have to much time & not enough to do. Some of them were bully'd in high school & by becoming police makes them feel incharge, makes us have to respect them no matter what they say or do. Mabe their sticking it to us like it was stuck to them....

Man what a whiner. I have one solution to prevent all your bitching. Don't run a stop sign. Secondly of those court costs all but maybe a dollar or two go to the state.

I would take the time to answer all your questions about OPD but you are just an idiot and I'm not going to waste my time. You don't need to be carrying any type of weapon you may hurt yourself.

I've told people to not smoke because if a fight breaks out someone could get burned (My safety). And if I get burned I will react (Your safety)!

They got my permit and D.L and looked it over, then came back and had me get out of the car and took my weapon. They had already ran because the one cop saw my badge and ask what it was, the other spoke up and told him, so they had already ran me.

I'm sure the whole cigarette thing was a control issue. But why even worry about it? It's trivial.

I don't carry a weapon thank you. If you are going to continue to cry about getting pulled over you are obviously to immature to carry a weapon. It's that simple. Let it go.

Same thing happened to me before. I didn't think it was a big deal. I told him he could search the car for all I cared. I told one police man, if he wanted he could point his gun at me. Hahaha what's he going to do shoot me in the back for slowing rolling through a stop sign. The only thing that pissed me off was, they unloaded my mag.

Next time tell them you don't have a gun. If you're black like me, they'll pull you over all the time. They even told me my hi point wasn't a good firearm.

Yeah, he should have just let you hold your loaded gun in your hand since he knew you wouldn't shoot him with it. Their computer can also accurately say if a person is going to shoot the officer. You are so right to be mad.
