I was really sad to hear this, this morning! Ive worked for the ambulance service and in the ER for over 4 years, needless to say, ive saw my fair share of JB as we called him. We always dreaded seeing him, but knowing we never will is kinda sad!! Rest in Peace John!!

Mist likely from his body just going out from his alcoholism...I dealt with John for years and he was honestly a great man. A lot of people don't know what caused his illness and it's a sad story that could cause any of us to make the same decision. Rest in peace John!

I worked there for 5 years and dealt with John regularly...we always agreed that it would happen while John was in jail but he was happy there minus he didn't have his alcohol. We were more afraid he'd die somewhere and not be found for days, weeks or months. If more than24-48 hours went by without him coming in, we always called OPD to check up on him. He was a great man and I won't forget him. Rest in peace John!!!

RIP John Brooks! how sad that his entire life revolved around alcohol... he used to buy bottles of our mouth wash to feed his addiction. hate to hear he was in jail when he died but glad to know he wasn't left and not found for days. I don't ever recall him causing much problems besides being absolutely wasted. everybody is somebody's son, grandson, uncle, cousin, or father.... praying any family he may have left behind!

So sad to hear this. I worked at the jail a few years he was a regular. He was always a respectful person.

RIP John.

While it's easy to remember him for his life with alcohol (as most in this town are familiar with), it's my understanding he had 8+ years of military service with significant combat exposure. Try to remember him for that too.

Just wanting to tell you all Thank you for your words of kindness. This is Carrie one of his daughter's. My dad was not perfect by no means but his goal in life was to make everyone laugh! He was a mess. I prayed every night for to change but that's not what he was about. I wish the paper today could have said some of the things you guys are saying on here. I too am glad he did pass away where he did. I would not want him on the street. He had alot of family who loved and cared for him. We are having Memorial Service for him Friday 11:00 Crosspointe Church. Thank you all again for all these wonderful comments.

Ok, I have sat here reading the postings in this, and other forums, in reference to my brother,
John. And you know I gotta hand it to those that can sit at a PC, and be judgmental, make jokes, or just be plain evil in their comments, I feel really sad, not because my brother has died, but because people who can post behind a monitor, and have no feelings about someones loss, doesn't matter that my brother served this countries military, and I myself served for 21 years, for your ‘’FREEDOM OF SPEECH’’
And ‘FREEDOM OF PRESS’’. But please let me add this short retort.
Those of you that are thoughtless, heartless, soulless, mindless. To all that is going on around you.
I feel that one day you will be in a situation that is either similar, or worse, and I hope that ‘’I am there’’
To assist you. Why, so that I can say ‘oh sorry’ I cant help you because ,you Sir are someone who thinks only of themselves, and doesn't care about others feelings, or loss when even the simplest kindest word(s) would add some comfort to the situation.
And to the person(s) that commented that about the pill poppers, methheads, and Christians.
You do know that is their right. Some call it an addiction, some call it their choice.
And, again I call it FREEDOM OF CHOICE and you are to hung up on trolling in a forum to see your own faults. In ending this short reply I leave you with this.
God:“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things that I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference’
least i forget. to those that had positive comments, and kinds words. thank you from the bottom of my heart. my family, and I really appreciates your words of kindness, and support
in our time of loss. God Bless

living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking as Jesus did;this sinful world as it is,not as we would have it ; trusting that God will make all things right if we surrender to his will' so that we maybe reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. To the family and loved ones of mr. Brooks I am sorry for your loss. I met him a few times thru my work place but never really knew him personally. Prayers go to the family during this time and I hope you find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain or suffering. RIP
