That's a phrase unfamiliar to most of us. But perhaps that should change.
“The phrase 'deep politics' was first coined by the eminent author, poet, and emeritus Berkeley professor, Peter Dale Scott.... In Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1993), Scott used this term to refer to the covert machinations of the military, the hard right, the intelligence agencies, and organized crime—all of which coalesced in the assassination in Dallas.”( http://tinyurl.com/33p2dy4
“Ahh, yes; another conspiracy theory,” you might say.
Certainly each of us is entitled to believe what we will, but doing so doesn't necessarily make it true.
Do you believe government is able and willing to lie, deceive, steal, misdirect and otherwise become corrupted? In that same vein, do you believe the mass media can and has been party to such government activities through it's minimal or, at times, non-existent coverage of such activities? If not, I submit such belief is not founded on historical fact.
The challenge of this letter then is to encourage questioning and investigation of “deep politics” itself and, if it is true, to understand how it works itself out within the media, government and, ultimately, in our lives.
Starting January 11, 2011 (note that this is a change from what was previously published), the Project to Restore America documentary schedule will be updated in order to present the “Understanding Deep Politics” conference held in Santa Cruz, CA, on May 14, 15 & 16, 2010. Conference speakers include: Peter Phillips of Project Censored; Annie Machon, a former MI-5 British Security Service intelligence officer; Peter Dale Scott, Canadian poet, published writer and former English professor, and more.
