What a wonderful story. It's always hard to give your child up for adoption, so some people would rather never have to face the child they gave up in order to block the pain and loss. But I feel if the child can prove it's a medical emergency for the survial of their life .... the records should be opened in order the adoptive person could get the help they need. .... and if its not an emergency ... then a time limit before the records could be opened. Like 30yrs ... giving the child time to mature and realize that life isn't always what we think it is and give the birth mother time to deal with the fact she had to let go of her baby. ... This is a no win situtation no matter what ..... There just has to be a better way than the way it's been handled in the past.

I was given up at birth by my birthmother. And when I was 35 I found her. Only because she had sent a letter to a judge stating that at anytime I wanted to know about her the judge could give me the letter she wrote saying who she is and that I have 2 sisters younger than me. I had health trouble and wanted to know medical . I am blessed that my parents Mom and dad who gave me a wounderful life was behind me and told me I needed to do these. And they have been great to my birthmom . They told her they where blessed because she gave me to them . And now I know my medical history and have a second family . And I also have my grandma who is a wounderful lady.

I knew This woman in High School and Middle School and it was a known fact that from a very young age she knew she was adopted. She has more issues than I can discuss on this board but this is a bogus story that has been imbellished beyond belief. Please do the research you should have done before you printed this story and then when you find out the facts please print a correction. This details of this story are a complete lie.

The American Adoption Congress is a nation-wide organization of adult adoptees, birthparents, adoptive parents, and professionals who advocate for unconditional access for adult adoptees to their original birth certificate. Their website has excellent info. Six US states have passed laws which restore adult adoptee's right to their obc.

There is a support group in Tulsa that meets the 1st Sat. of each month for anyone who was adopted or a birthparent or adoptive parent who is searching or reunited. The info. for this group can be found on the American Adoption Congress website, under support groups or state rep. Excellent books available, including Birthright by Jean Strauss.

I have a granddaughter that, I am afraid, will be in this same situation at some point in the future. Her parents (my daughter and her husband) have refused to let my g-daughter in on their "little secret" and I just pray that it will not be devastating for my granddaugher when she does find out. We all know things like this have a way of coming out of the closet. & coming back to bite some one & in this case most likely my daughter

It just always amazes me the stupid people that come out whenever someone truly has one of those "Feel Good" stories and their life has finally worked out and come together the way it always should have been...

My mother did not find out about her real father until she was 54 years old while her mother was on her death bed...Everyone in the family knew of my mothers real father but kept it a secret...As they said "So as not to hurt her"...Who was really hurt more in this lie? The family, or my Mom?...Anyway, she found her real father and found that she had two brothers but her story did not end as happy as this lady....Her father had died a month before she found him and her brothers did not want anything to do with her....They all knew she existed all her life too...
I applaud this lady for finding out the truth and finding her family...It is really a great story...All those that are the stupid ones and say the stupid things such as she new from the time she was young, my Mom also knew from the time she was young that something was different, that something just was not right but until her mother was dying, we just did not really know the truth...It's sad but it happens....She is lucky she got to meet her whole family, my Mom still has family that wants nothing to do with the rest of us...

some people are just cruel by nature and that is just how they are and they will never change and that is sad and those kind of people you dont need in your life and if they chose to be that way then she doesnt need them in her life, i am just saying it is probably best for her if she doesnt have anything to do with them. oh this is in response to karmadiane's comment.......sorry.

14th Annual "RegDay"
Separated by adoption? Looking for a relative? Could a family member
be looking for YOU? Register for FREE to be found!
RegDay is an annual event to increase public awareness of the
International Soundex Reunion Registry; a free humanitarian service
better known as ISRR. ISRR is a non-profit mutual consent registry
dedicated to reuniting adult family members separated by adoption,
divorce, or other dislocation.
For families separated by adoption who wish to search for lost kin,
state laws permanently sealing adoption records can make it that much
more difficult. Original birth certificates are even sealed in cases
of step-parent adoption.
RegDay can be a source for information on a variety of records-access
reform issues of interest to both the adoption and genealogy
communities. Recent open records victories in Maine, New Hampshire,
Alabama, and Oregon have helped to raise awareness of the need to
make these personal government-held records available to those to
whom they most intimately pertain.
With over 6 million adoptees in the U.S and countless other siblings,
relatives, spouses, and friends affected, this topic is not only
timely, but it is also universal.

. Hello Mr. Collins I am very curious about your comment on this lady, I have been turning a blind eye to her and the things she says and dose. But I am not sure now that things she has told me are true and I thought you might be able to give me some insight into her so I can make a better decision on staying in contact with her? I feel like she was messing up my marriage! Please help if you can? Thank you
