Ovilla woman undergoes surgery after being shot

Full story: The Ellis County Press Online

The best we can tell, it was a domestic [dispute] that turned violent. Kathleen Norton, 42, underwent surgery last Wednesday, Oct. 3, at a Dallas hospital, after being shot in the head by her husband who killed himself, authorities said. via The Ellis County Press Online

Whatever happened about the drugs that were found? Was she charged with that?

Of course she wasn't charged. The police have enough evidence to prove the drugs weren't hers.

Actually the legal jargon would be they don't have enough evidence to prove they were hers, since they don't have to prove a negative. But common sense would indicate they most likely were hers and his and that they both had drug and alcohol issues.

Maybe so. Fortunately, the police know otherwise.

This Country was founded on innocent until proven quilty. It is amazing how judgmental you can be when you don't know the facts. Hopefully someone in your family isn't the victum of family violence and treated with such disrespect.

Wow.....I've known this person for a long time and I must say that this rumor has been going around for a couple years. Her behavior and mannerisms certainly support that theory. That being said, she really needs to get some help. Rather than denying there is a problem and getting all defensive, her family and friends should work on getting her the help she needs. They also need to make sure one addiction is not substituted for another such as prescription drugs, etc. Those can be just as dangerous for her as well as others (if she's driving) if abused.

All of you people think you are announymous and you are not. Rumors are just that, rumors. Spread by evil, jealous and malicous people. I've known her for over 20 years. She has no addiction problems, she never has. This dear friend of mine struggled with the loss of her husband and her children's father. Yes she drives, with no difficulty and is under the care of several doctors because of her traumatic injuries. This was a very sad event in this family's life and some seriously disturbed people want to turn it into something else because they themselves have borderline personality disorders. You need to save your false concern and look inward. He who is without sin may cast the first stone.

Kathy knows the truth about what led up to all this. God knows the truth too. She has to live with her part in all of this. It probably keeps her up at night. She'll answer to God one day.

The day for these people to answer is coming, very soon..... It has been enjoyable to sit back and watch them self-destruct.

it amazes me that vicious lies are still being told about Kathy. those who know her and knew Todd know what happened and know the truth. the day will come that you people will have to answer for the lies you tell and yes everyone knows who you are. it is painfully obvious. i hope you are able to look deep inside yourself and realize all of this was so unnecessary and only destroys you. you need to seek professional help. Kathy only wants to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and move on which she is doing. She is an amazing person

I never saw this coming,he spoke with me alot about his problems and regrets he had family wide.
He was a great father and husband all 24 years they were together. He loved his family like I`ve
never seen in our own.It took years to get to this horrible moment, and all involved will have to
live with the past.
Yes they both had thier problems as we ALL do.
They just didn`t want anybody in their personal life,as most of all of us are the same.
People forget how much they are loved by others when they are not in your every day life,
Todd did.
I know nobody wanted this to happen, and or thought it would ever come to this.
I love Kathy and the kids just as I always have and always will.
Please don`t judge them, for you just don`t know.

As far as sitting back and enjoying watching anybody self destruct, that is just plain sick and I pray it never happens to you,Carolyn.

I can not understand why anyone would take pleasure in someone else's suffering. This family was torn apart, a husband and best friend lost, a father, brother, nephew and son taken in the prime of his life. Regardless of how he died, it is a sad and trajic death. Who cares if there were drugs, or guns, or depression, who does anyone want to point fingers and look for blame. This family suffered a tremendous loss and this world lost a beautiful person. Those of you who were fortunate enough to ever come on contact with Todd, would know the beautiful person he was. His memory will live on and he will be missed. For those of you who continue to try and destroy and hurt his family, shame on you. I pray for your souls and that God looks with favor upon you and heals your black hearts.

The "concerned" friend from is a false friend. This person is not concerned and is lying about the "RUMORS" that have been going around for awhile. I do not and never have had a drug or alcohol problem. I don't go around pretending to be a real estate agent, "Maggie" to steal documents, I don't break into my neighbors homes or steal their mail to try and build a case against them for the justice department. I have never made false statements against my former employer to ease my conscience. I have been upfront, honest and caring towards my enemies who seek to destroy me. I am not on a missiona after 7 months to try and destroy their careers, but instead forgive and pray for the Lord to heal their blackened hearts. God looked upon me with favor and spared my life and choose to heal my husband in heaven. Why some people can not let go of their hatred for me is frightening. I hold no harsh feelings towards them, but turn the other cheek and pray that God will reach them and soften their hearts before they themselves have to overcome the suffering that I myself has suffered. God has looked upon my family with favor and those that choose the Devil's path will pay in their next life. It is not my place to judge, but to forgive and pray for the redeemption of their souls.- Kathleen Norton, Wife and Widow of a Wonderful Man, Todd Norton, who was taken from us too early in life.

You are one of those gossip mongers. Her mannerisms are just that, HER mannerisms. She has always been known to be full of life and energy. Not everyone has to take drugs to be that way. For some people, it comes natural to enjoy life.

This whole story should be a lesson to all involved. You don't always know what goes on behind closed doors. Some love stories end happily, most dop not. Todd and Kathy met and fell in love immediately. They had two beautiful kids and lived the American Dream. Unfortunately for them, mental illness took it all away. I see Kathy and how she aches every day for Todd. He gave her two beautiful children and a life time of great memories. All of the evil people in this world will never be able to take that from her. Todd was a wonderful husband and Father, Brother, Newphew and Son. He is missed every day by many. We love you Todd and know that you watch over your family every day. God called you home too early for those left behind, but you will meet up with your family again.

This family is trying to recover from some serious physical and emotional wounds brought on by this terrible tragedy. If some of you had a shred of common decency, you would leave them alone so that they can have a chance to grieve and heal. I have wanted to reach out more to this family but have not because I did not want them to think I was "seeking out information" for my son because of the line of work he is in. I have asked a few of the Ovilla police officers about Kathleen's progress and they have told me. Her strength and that of her children is incredible. I am just sorry that they have more to deal with at this time in their lives than they deserve due to some very insensitive and judgmental people. I love you Norton family.

Thank You Cheri. The kids and I miss Todd very much. The people that used to be part of my life thought it was entertaining to try and hurt my family. It will not be forgotten, by many. They have made fools of themselves and shown everyone how unstable they are. This all will come to an end and they will answer for what they did. The good and decent people of Ellis County, the City of Ovilla, from the police, to Amanda the postal lady, the garbage collectors and our neighbors were there for us. Also many of the attorneys of the Dallas Bar Association supported, helped and took care of my family at the worst time in our lives. I feel loved by many and the hatred of the few people from Cedar Hill and Garland does not stop us from moving forward, picking up the pieces and being happy, healthy people. I hope no one ever has to face the trajedy that we have. Thank you Mrs. Dauben, for everything. Mrs. Kathleen Norton.

Has it as really been a great 19 months since the accident? The children are well, Todd is at peace, and I have a great job with a decent humanitarian boss. My education is progressing, I'm at honor roll level and my job performance and peer acceptance ranks high. My former boss has many people that tell me how incompetent she is and that her ethics are so out of line with the Judicial Ethics Codes, none of her peers respect her and are looking for an opponent for the next election. What you plant, you sow. I feel for her Mother and Husband, they are good people. My hope is that she gets some mental help before she truly harms a family.
As for my family, we are so happy to have her part of the past!!!

I will support ANY Candidate against this poor excuse of a Judge.
