Just wondering why Oviedo residents are so upset about the 18,000 sq. ft. Goodwill Store being built on 434 near Chapman Road...The money the store raises will help fund their services.
Goodwill is a community focused non-profit provider for people with disadvantages, such as welfare dependency, homelessness, and lack of education or work experience, as well as those with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Last year they provided services to over 1 million disadvantaged individuals nationwide.

I don't want the store to open. This store shows that Oviedo is poverty stricken. Only bad areas have Good Will stores. Now I have to make sure my child is ok at his school as it is right next door to the stupid store. I also love that the City of Oviedo says nothing about this until now. When the store is almost completed. If I could petition for it not to open, I WOULD.

The reason no one has complained is that no one really knows about it. It is news to me and I live a couple blocks away! I don't like the idea of it being there either, but I guess it got sneaked in like most unsavory projects do. They/we cried about a Wal-Mart Super Store and that would have been preferrable.

I am sorry people think a Goodwill store will make their area look bad. It's not true. I live in Dix Hills, Long Island, New York and we have one. This is a very affluent area so they get many high quality items donated. I have gone there to buy great new toys for kids that are almost new and at the same time dropped off bikes, housewares, etc that I no longer need. This store does not have to be considered a negative. It will reflect the area that it is in and nothing more.

I live near there also, and I am not upset. I agree with you Joseph. As the name implies: Goodwill--- I look forward to having a convenient place to make my donations & to have it distributed back into our community. "Goodwill to all"

Oh Please having a GW does not make Oviedo Poor!!!! Think about it..... it doesn't matter what type of store you put in an area its the people that live there. The GW in Oviedo is nice and in case you don't know Target donates all of there clearance items that don't sell to GW, that's why you will see there red stickers. It helps the ecomony and the landfills. I have donated alot of nice things to them already, some brand new.. go worry about the bars by the college, that's what we don't need, more drunk college kids!

I live in Oviedo and I'm pleased that there is a goodwill in Oviedo. There were a few donation centers for other nonprofits scattered around town anyway, but they were unable to process the amount of donations that they were getting.
As far as the bars go, honestly there needs to be more. Oviedo is missing out on a large amount of alcohol sales. That is revenue that could be used on our ever expanding road projects as well as to extend the budgets for our Oviedo schools. As long as the bars are run respectively, follow the laws, and don't let drunk people drive. There should be no issue with having them.
Also I think it's dumb they amount of fuss people were giving when the ABC liquor store was put in. They can't even operate at full capacity. They are not allowed to rent kegs, even though the local Albertsons can rent kegs.
As long as Oviedo residents keep complaining about what is going to be built in Oviedo, they will always being selling our town short.

It just shows pure ignorance if you think opening a Goodwill store in your area diminishes our reputation. It's brand new, very nice & very convenient for people to drop off their items for the less fortunate. Shame on you for your petty views, that's what wrong with the world today.

For goodness sake! I'm not "poor" and I love to go into the store and look around. I used to drive far away to donate, and now it is close by. My step-daughter's house burned down, and we took her there to buy clothes for herself and her baby, and when we told the Good Will folks, they ran the register to $48 and then stopped...and gave her all the rest of what she needed. We need MORE Good Will all around.

I'm pretty sure whoever complained was trying to start a ruckus for no reason. The wonders of the internet (such an advancement!!!!) Both stores are extremely beneficial as I need them to survive. I work at Outback Steakhouse in Oviedo, and I prepare food for the town I care about... as it is my home. I don't know why I wasted this much time placing a comment.
