This is totally ridiculous. In today's world, it sure does show disrepect for firemen, policemen, teachers, and other notable positions of authority,

Often times police officers forget their roles as law enforcement officers and behave as poorly as the civilians they are sworn to protect. Lets not forget that they are SWORN TO PROTECT AND SERVE the public safety. Thusly, they should remember that their respect, as it should be afforded them, is also a two way street. The PUBLIC is their employer. This officer got what he has probably been needing for a long time... remedial training... albeit, the expensive way.

Typical from libs. This man was obviously an idiot, insulting our cities finest as he/she attempts to keep our streets safe and he's awarded money. The traffic stop made his children cry???? How about not running stop signs and putting their life and others in jeopardy. Ridiculous.

So, let me get this straight. I can earn some extra money by flipping off a police officer, Wow now I don't have to get that part-time job. I'll throw in some tears to make it really good. Hmmmm just wondering how much we would have to pay him, if he had pulled out a gun an shot the officer???

Ummm, john, a quick fact check. We fought the National Socialist Party (Nazi's) once, not twice. The First World War was against the Kaiser (German yes, Nazi no). The National Socialist party grew up in the late 20's/early 30's, out of the ashes of WWI and the reparations demanded by France & England. Now my question is, who do we call to report you for being a misinformed person?

Why are you blaming the court? The Police officer was out of line. He did the correct thing first, and then lost control. The $5,000.00 is the penalty that the police officer earned for his employer when he went over the line. If the fine was not levied then the officer might think that he can do what he wants under any circumstances. That is the slippery slope that you don't want to go down.
Hey, ziggy could you show me where it says in the article that the officer 'lost control'? I can't seem to find it. My guess is that the officer did not lose control, he probably very calmly wrote the idiot another ticket for disorderly conduct. I suppose Mr. Schaper should be grateful that he didn't get snatched out of the car & given a 'tune-up", like he would have gotten in Signal Hill (LA suburb) for the same stunt. Police officers have a difficult job to do, considering the idiots like you that they have to deal with on a daily basis. I predict that Mr Schaper should be extraordinarily careful while driving in Olathe, because I will wager that the Olathe PD will be watching for him. If I had stopped him for failure to stop at a stop sign and he did that to me, I'd have done the same thing, wrote him a ticket for disorderly conduct. If he had continued to be abusive and physically combative, I would have 'cuffed & stuffed' him and called child services to pick up his kids.

that is total bull that officers, those that lay their life on the line to protect an serve, have to "take such verbal abuse." that man was legally stopped for running a stop sign, and his conduct was disorderly when he flipped an officer off. who cares if his children cry because he broke the law? when the law isnt doing what you want, they are a bother and an inconvienence to you, but the moment that they are needed, they dont do enough. get real people!!!be glad we even have law enforcement!

While this jerk was certainly disrespectfull of the office he was not "verbally abusing" him by flipping the bird. Police officers should have a thicker skin and disposition to handle such rude behavior without resorting to throwing his weight around. He should have just smiled at the rude jerk and said "have a nice day" and drove away instead of writing the jerk a ticket.

1. This could only happen in Johnson county
2. The folks at aclu need to find real jobs instead of the stupid stuff they find to do.
3. I would have tasered the guy before giving him a ticket
4. Stuff like this is what is bringing down America.
5. What ever happened to being obedient to police officers?
6. Quit stretching the constitution farther than ever intended
7. the aclu needs to be abolished for stupidity
8. let me pay the idiot, he won't like it.
9. obama as president, aclu as backup. Lord help us all.
10. the end of the world.

Take a hard look at the group you listed. Preachers( priests) have a high rate of predophiles in their group. The police have helped convict people that really had nothing to do with the crime (Dennis Fritz). How many treachers have had sex with students (minors). We used to call this rape and lock the pedophile rapists up. No group is beyond or above the law. Your thinking is as outdated as a stay at home mom!

Please move to Iran. They like your thinking! The police have a disrespect for the public. Do you think Dennis Fritz and many others should be jailed for crimes somebody else did! The lack of concern for honest behavior by the police and government is a bigger problem than the ACLU.

The cop and the court lawyer that approved it. Dis-bar the lawyer and take away the cop's law enforcement merit badge. Let's see how they like working at low paying jobs because they are criminals!

This is insane! Flipping off the officer WAS disorderly - and disrespectful, and a horrible example to his kids. At the VERY most, the ticket should have been dismissed if it was found that it was out of line for the officer to have given it. But to reward the guy for this bad behavior is exactly what is causing so many problems in our society today - everyone thinks that they're entitled to something, but they can act however they want and be rude and disrespectful to whomever they please. Grow up and be a asset to our society, instead of a detriment!!!
