Red Herring.
Right now, the citizens of FLOMO needs to worry about the school district. If it continues its slide it will be the demise of the city, and that district is sinking fast.
FLOMO needs to do everything it can to attract young white families or you can kiss its future goodbye and that means fixing the schools--PERIOD.
One high school and a junior high need to be designated achievement academies with selective enrollment and advanced curriculum. Same goes for HSD. Copy the city district--the academies are great.

Demographics have consequences. Once it reaches the level it has, it's far too late. Now might be a good time to support UNCF.

Tom in 2015. Labor rules. Game on. Run against the best, lose with the rest. We got your back Tom!

People when are you going to wake up? Keith English is raising money left and right for his state rep race, will win re-election in a cake walk and take all that extra money and spin it into a bid for mayor. Then what happens to the "Florissant Mafia" aka Gettemeier's breakfast crew of which English, Behlmann and Lee have all been participants? Do they all run? Does Susan Geerling give it another shot after finishing second in 2011? All this does is create a crowded field which traditionally guarantees victory to the incumbent...Mayor Schneider.

Why is there so much discussion of a race that will not happen until 2015?

And his marching orders are crystal clear. Continue resting and do not interfere or become a hindrance. Tom in 2015. Bank on it.

I used to feel that way also. But I've seen major turnarounds in the St Louis Public Schools and Maplewood--both majority black. Not in terms of black student achievement obviously, that is what it is, but in creating an environment where adequate resources are devoted to those who have the capability and will to achieve, so that both blacks and whites who want to can receive a decent education. That is what's lacking in the NORCO schools and why the area will likely fail, even given probably the best and most convenient location in St Louis county.

Is Mike Omara really thinking about running for mayor? We need to get rid of Tom S or the city will be done for.

So it's change you want?

The only way it will happen is if the voters suddenly wise up and elect a mayor who's first order of business is to change the charter to a City Manager form of gov't.

Otherwise goodnight and good luck.

Central Scrutinizer why do you think a City Manager would be a better choice? The Council would select the Manager and if the balance of power shifts, the old Manager is fired an a new one is hired. Also, Managers bounce from job to job constantly looking for more money. The days of a Manager staying in one place, like Ed Carlstrom Hazelwood, are long gone.

the city needs a skilled administrator, someone who has been educated and trained in muni government and administration. The Mayor is an elected position, not a skilled and trained administrator.
The city can hire a skilled administrator to run the business of the city right now, they don't need a Charter Change.
A city manager would need a Charter change.
Bottom line is, the business of the city needs a skilled and trained professional. Let the politicians kiss the babies, and the skilled jobs to the educated.

FERG has used teh city manager model for quite a while now--would anyone like to make any comparisons between FERG and FLOMO?

Is Florissant just smarter than the 99% of the other cities that have city managers or city administrators? But The Central Scrutinizer is right. The people need to wake up and dump the current mayor or we are all doomed.
