I would like nothing more than to rehabilitate this property into a safe, drug free, violence free place for teens to hang out staffed with mentors from area churches.

The tennis courts could easily be replaced with a skate park, and the inside area would be perfect for support groups, bible studies, etc.

We have so many at risk teens emerging in this area, a para church youth outreach facility is exactly what we need.

I am a 41 white mother of four who has been born and raised in florissant. Yes, the demographics have changed since I was a child due to the ignorance of the white flighters. However I totally believe this is a sustainable neighborhood, if only we would invest in our youth, and raise them up to be moral leaders.

City of Florissant should buy this and update, for a new Florissant Park and Pool for the north east end of town.

The people from "this side" that are bashing the people of Florissant and so obviously racist are probably not from Florissant. If they are from North County, they were not long time residents.
The reason black people migrated north is because there was no resistance. The racism that existed in South St. Louis did not exist in North St. Louis.
There are always exceptions, but for the most part people north did not have a problem with it when people south were burning crosses in front yards.
This was pointed out to me by co-workers from south county in 1964, 48 years ago.
I apologize to the people of Florissant for the posts from a few ignorant people over here that are not representative of those of us from Florissant.
Please don't put yourself in the "ignorant" category by telling me I am the problem.

I take bitter exception to your "ignorance of the white flighters" remark. I am an African American female that once lived in the very same area that you are referring to. I too chose to move to St. Charles and live in a very nice and predominately white neighborhood that has embraced my educated husband and I with very open arms along with our 2 sons who are in college. Frankly, we moved because we wanted a newer, larger home in an area where the median home price was higher and the average incomes of those around us was higher as well. Bettering oneself because they're able to do so should not be viewed as "ignorant". The area that my family and I lived in was not desirable to us anymore. We've found an area that is. Perhaps you should think before you speak or at least educate yourself on the facts beforehand.

I Had some of the best summers of my life up at that pool. I was heartbroken when it shut down. I really hope someone can buy it out and restore it back to what it was originally like.

is because it was a private facility and it didn't have enough members to keep it going. The fees were not too bad, but they kept going up and a lot of people dropped out and opted for public pools where they only had to pay when they used them.

FYI, the site is not withing the city limits of Florissant and it doesn't belong to the county the property was/is privately owned and operated.

The property is privately owned, and it was in the county at one time, but, the City of Florissant has annexed the property, and it is now located within the city limites of Florissant.

The city limits of Florissant begins about a block after you make a left turn onto Patterson. If you go right onto Vaile it is the county. The city limits of Florissant on N.Halls Ferry ends right across from Sunswept Apts. then it becomes STC all the way out NHF until you turn on Shackleford and get to the intersection of Weithaupt. Then it becomes Florissant until you get to Riverwood Trails entrance. Then it's the county if you go straight, but the area of neighborhoods on the right are Florissant.

The whole County..Florissant boundaries are a mess. I know this because my neighbor is an agent of the company handling the Wedgewood property as well as a couple of house behind it which are in Florissant. It has a Florissant zip code just like all the property out there whether it is in the city limits of Florissant or the county. If you look up Wedgewood Bath and Tennis club you'll find the Florissant zip code but it will say "located in St.Louis County.

Your neighbor the real estate agent is wrong. Go into the rear door of City Hall. Two maps hanging on the wall verify this property is within the city boundary. It takes a little effort to do proper research. St. Louis county's computer information is not always correct or up to date. Stop up and verify for yourself.

I used to live in the court that is right next to Wedgewood Bath and Tennis Club.
Yes, it is Florissant there. It was annexed in the 2002-2006 year range.
My parents moved there in '69 from Berkeley. That place was wonderful years ago. Had great memories there, made a lot of friends, and it was just an overall good time and area.
Back then when my parents bought their house, it came with a lifetime membership as a perk for buying their house.
After I grew up and left the area, my parents never went there anymore, so I think that "membership" expired because of them not going anymore.
It's a shame that that area is what it is now.
Sad....

Well, what is it now, as in "that area"? Inquiring minds want to know.
