they need to repave trotterway and paddock.these streets are really bad.you can't hardly drive down trotterway. every intersection is wash boarded. the city throws way to much salt on the streets and ti takes it's toll on them.save some money on the salt throwing and fix the streets. and i don't mean just chip and seal, i mean a repave job.

need to raise revenue

United States

#4 Feb 19, 2013
The only way the streets of Florissant can be properly repaired and updated is to raise tax revenue. Implement a Property Tax increase, or add a special city wide sales tax.

There should be a city/resident committee formed to review and evaluate all the streets in Florissant and determine the long term cost and create a task force to accomplish the tax increase to complete the project.

i really don't support a tax increase,i think they need to spend our tax dollars more wisely. just the revenue from the red light cameras should do some street repairs. we didn't have this revenue before, where's it going? what happens to all the money the police dept. brings in?
Capital Improvements

United States

#6 Feb 19, 2013
No one likes tax increases. But, if we are going to improve the street and road system in Florissant, we need to do it more than just one street at a time. It has been many years since we have repaved much. Time for the slurry mix to stop and the repaving to begin. That will take real money, and lots of it.
Actually, Florissant has done a good job at cost control in the city, but these type of capital improvements require new money.

If you look at all the money Mayor Bob pi$$ed away during his time in office (like the $48,000 water fountain across from Crest Bowl), maybe eliminating some of the wasted expenditures would free up some money for street repairs. Why is it that government, at all levels, looks only at raising revenues rather than reducing expenditures? Remember Margaret Thatcher's famous words: "Socialism works great until you run out of other people's money."

The repairs will probably get done when the weather is more settled. It doesn't do much good to patch the potholes when it is 50 degrees one day and pouring rain the next and below freezing after that.

What bothers me is the company that has been doing the asphalting. In a lot of the streets there's a bump going completely down the center because the asphalt wasn't properly poured/spread. Then there are the sewer lids which they didn't (the city or whomever) make the surrounding area level with the street. Hit one of those and it is almost like hitting a pothole. There's a really bad one at the entrance of Lowe's on New Halls Ferry, I saw a guy lose a hubcap when he hit that one. And yeah, it has been reported, so far nothing has changed.
Hello Mayor

I hope the Mayor and the city council are reading this. They need to start paying attention to what the stake houlders (the tax payers) in Florissant want.
We need a better run and operated city organization.

what is the city street dept. doing? i reported a hole next to the curb on gallop and waterford 2 weeks ago. this hole is 6or7 foot deep and maybe20 inchs wide, it's like a sink hole. if a child would fall in nobody would ever know. so no one has made a move to do anything about it. bad thing about this is you can walk right pass it and never really notice it, that's what makes it so dangerous. there is no reason it should take this long to get something like this taken care of.

Sounds like the VC spider holes we used to see back in 'Nam. Don't got no gooks in your neighborhood do ya? If you do, gonna need some napalm! And a Ride of the Valkyries CD and some big speakers for your Huey.

God I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

maybe they could fix some streets if they weren't spending $11,000 on a frisbee park,

The City Council needs to step up and take control. They need to do something for their $1200 per month per person salary.
Where is the leadership?

$1200 dollars a month thats crazy. that's what drives them to run for office. and that is on top of their regular jobs. i say if you were really concerned about this city you would be a council member for free.

It might comfort you to know that the paving on the walk/bicycle path from St. Ferdinand Park to Sunset Park is in A-1 condition.
