The ice cream was fine, but all the food was fried and the help was surley. All that fried food is the reason for all the fat asses in the area.

its sad that me,of only 23 years of age, can see childhood memories shut down and close their doors, and say to the younger ones i remember when that was all farm field. Another sad day for posterity.

I hear all of the fond memories, but we must be realistic. Leiby's declined because something did not set well with the public. The excitement was gone because the owners got tired and....lazy, and the last owners completely had no idea how to bring back what made Leiby's so great.

My personal view of Leibys' from 1988 until late 90's was not good. Just being honest. Whatever made Leiby's great 40 years ago was somehow lost.

Just telling the truth as I saw it.

This would make a great topic on Air Your Opinion radio show.
We need new topics to keep this valuable community asset on the air.
Just call and inspire some good conversation before we lose the show.
It's on Saturdays, 9am-Noon.

If you worked hard at Leiby's, you were always given the few extra cents to keep working hard. Minimum wage wasn't that bad for a teen ager in the '80's. You could go out to a movie and still have some cash left over at $4 an hour(OK it was 3.35 when I started) but that didn't last that long. Is there any place around that is willing to teach a 16YO the value of work?(really, I don't know) Even at the new minimum wage, it is harder to enjoy the simple things from summer.
That being said, families want more for their money and the latest leiby's wasn't offering that. I still have people asking me about the gift shop that wasn't even owned by the family. That was a draw to the older generation.
The world has changed. We have all come to accept crappy service when the meal is big and tasty. The costs at Leiby's kept going up and the meals weren't changing.
Leiby's ice cream and heisler's both used the same ingredients. I liked Heisler's better because I didn't have to scoop it. I never liked Teaberry because it smelled like pepto bismol.
Thanks to all the friends I've worked with. Looking back, it was a lot of fun.

The owners weren't even in the area. They bought it as a cash cow to run off of the coat tails of the original owners. Truth be told, I don't think there were too many people who could have carried the torch in the same location. People would complain about the food to the new manager even though it was prepared from the same ingredient by the same employee as the previous 30 years. Nothing could have survived in that environment relying on the same clientel(sp). A major overhaul would need to be done for a resteraunt to survive. Especially when folks are willing to pay $40/couple at a chain to get a microwave dinner seved by someone wearing flair and a frown.

I think their customer base died off, literally. I had been going there my whole life(I'm 43)because my Grandparents were loyal customers. Once I grew up, I didn`t think the food was good, or worth the money they were charging. I still went there occasionally for a sundae, as they were always good. Once the senior citizens of the late 80's and 90's were unable to support the restaurant, they went downhill, and fast. I raelly thought a large chain type restaurant would have come into the bulding, such as Olive Garde, Red Lobster, etc., but I guess the customer base isn`t there. Mow we'll have to settle for another cookie cutter gas station/ convenience store. Don`t we already have 3 of those on that same highway?

You mean Mark in the dark and his faithful leader Dumbo Ear AKA Mickey. Air Your Stupidity has long worn out any usefulness, if it ever had any in the first place. The show is full of whining crybabies, of which very few have a clue of what their talking about. The self-centered host is so full of himself, and he very seldom has enough knowledge on the subject, to question, the truth of the crap, most of the callers, have to say. Just put on a Polka show and most of the old bities, will be happier. The only good caller is the retired accountant / auditor, who also appears at school board meeting and he doesn't even seem able to read a check book ledger. I can't wait to see what he says next, to make a total fool out of himself. I wonder if when PVSD start their dress code, if it will apply to the people who speak at the board meetings, since this guy dresses funny too.

Even without parking DiMaggio's will do better than anyhing they put in there at this point. No shopping in the area to sustain a resteraunt there. If you've driven that far after leaving any shopping area, you will probably just go home and eat cheap.
