So this is what the canal plans to do, lay off the full time lock operators, and turn around and hire seasonal workers only. The head of the canals, Stratton is in bed with the governor and the thruway, and it wont make a difference what they negotiate in the contracts the workers are gone. Every municipality with marinas, cities with canal festivals, even pleasure users will be affected, not just the workers involved, and the money they put back into their local economy. And, yet they are investing 38 million to finish 84 miles of canal trail to promote tourism, Yeah Mr. Governor, keep up the good work. And FYI, to the people who say these guys are overpaid, they start at $12, definitely not enough to survive without a second earner, but these guys do it for the pride and joy they have in taking care to preserve these historic locks that are so important to New York history.
