Here we are in terrible economic shape and we dig the hole even deeper to hire someone to work on improving the situation. Perhaps it would have been better to pay the same salary as the previous director and then offer a performance bonus at the end of each year. In that way if our budget doesn''t improve neither should theirs.

commissioners should know better than to get caught in this. makes them look imcompetent
4/4/2009 7:00:57 AM
The county should not of offered any more than $87,000 because the county is already in a financial problem and $87,000 is really enough.

Times are tough, I suck it up.... so lets all practice tighjtning up our belts. There are other options, raises , bonuses, merit raises etc..when times are better and the coordinator has proved their worth. Lets stop the greed.

where do you think they will get the money for this deal. enough is enough
4/4/2009 6:09:47 PM
I not only don''t agree with increasing his salary, I don''t agree with hiring him or anybody else for a job the county can ill afford given the state of the economy. Yeah, the position is supposed to bring more jobs and taxes to the county, but isn''t there someone in one of the other overpaid positions that could do the same? Now is not the time to take on unnecessary expenses. After spending all that money to expand the jail, spend any extra money to finish the job.

Why after 18 months without a economic coordinator do we need one now and to over pay him. I feel that it would have been better for the county to hire a 911 coordinator. There was hope in Delaware that with new commissioners that there would better disicions made but I guess it is the same-o same-o.

He hasn''t done anything except give away the store for the City. I expect him to sell the County down the river as well. And, as always, the residents who pay the bills will get the short end. Business as usual in Delaware County. Development at any price is no bargain.
4/6/2009 8:11:36 AM
Hmmm let''s see for starters all we have heard is that we have no money, and that although the Commissioners don''t want to lay anyone off they may have to in order to cut costs. Then out of the other side of their mouth they offer more money to get this man is each one of the Commissioners going to take a cut in pay to make up the difference ? I seriously doubt it so that means to me NO LAYOFF''s in the county right?
4/6/2009 8:29:22 AM
Not in this economic climate.
4/6/2009 8:46:14 AM
I''m sure there was someone just as qualified as he is ,who would have excepted the job for the 87,000.
4/6/2009 9:14:55 AM
we are in economic crisis- we are all making cuts- why should he/she be allowed to whin and get more. Have you taken note of the company''s cutting back their wages, days working, and everything else or do you as usual for Delaware County live in your own bubble of the good ole days- get with it you idiots.
4/6/2009 10:28:03 AM
Too many people are being paid more than they are worth.
4/6/2009 11:04:50 AM
No! Comstock was making 72,000 with the city. He wasn''t worth that, look around the city! 20,000 to move down the street. Unreal! The city and county are separate entities. The city declined under Comstock we don''t want him involved in county or township government. The growth in the county is in the southern tier. Please send him back to the hole he came from.

They already have a budget deficit and they insist on offering more money?? They should not spend what they don’t have…
4/6/2009 5:04:29 PM
Government needs to STOP with all the extras and start doing without until the rest of us can afford to eat.
4/6/2009 5:11:02 PM
Times are hard for everyone. People in this county have taken pay cuts just to keep jobs. i beleive it was a slap in the face to the residents of this county. I am sure there was another applicant that would have been glad to step up and take the position at the starting salary. Mr Comstock is greedy and the commissioner are not looking after the well being of our county.

It makes it appear the candidate was less interested in the job than the money. Salary is an important consideration, but how sincere is his desire to do the job? Once he got his way (salary) then all of a sudden the job was interesting again. Everyone has bills, financial obligations, kids in college or medical expenses--a difference of $3000.00 from his present salary wasn''t an awful sacrifice. What about those folks that are losing their minimum wage jobs? They have had to sacrifice all. Where was the negotiation process, was there one, what about benefits, how do they compare here to where he was? That has to be taken into account as well. I am sure there are candidates who would work for less than $87000.00 out there, were they interviewed?
4/7/2009 1:51:08 PM
I would love to make 80,000 offer me the job
4/7/2009 3:18:13 PM
Enoughs enough
4/8/2009 7:19:15 AM
negotiate
4/8/2009 9:32:36 PM
When government becomes our servants again, instead of our masters, we can talk about pay raises.
4/9/2009 4:02:30 PM
I feel the 87,00 should have stood..........or maybe less the first year until Delaware county sees results, then possibly rewarding him. I also think it''s a big smack in the face for the rest of the Delaware county employees who were told no raises and then this guy holds out for $4,000 more. I think that part stinks. And one more thought..........can''t the City and County possibly have ONE economic development coordinator? What ever one does, it will effect the other. To me, this would seem more reasonable.
4/9/2009 5:09:08 PM
I believe that the slary should have been lowered to reflect the economic issues that EVERYONE else has to face! Why are we unpaid wordays OFF? Is it to pay for this bozos salary of 91k???? How lame...
4/10/2009 8:57:44 AM
absolutely not!!
4/10/2009 9:31:53 AM
keep looking
