The long-sought widening of State Road 415 has hit another traffic jam. The City Commission this week passed on an opportunity to get the proposed $80 million-plus project started in less than four years.

I can tell you why.

DEATH !

I lived along that stretch of road between Osteen and SR 44 for many years.

It was carnage after carnage.

Too many cars to and from the beach. Too many impared drivers, driving too fast.

If records were kept, I'm sure you would find 415 is a leading death trap in the state.

Even after I-4 was widened to 3 lanes the death toll keeps increasing. I don't understand your thinking.......impaired and impatient drivers is going to be fixed with widening 415 to 2 lanes at a cost of 80 million dollars????? What planet are you from.

I love riding 415, nice road and scenery, but I see some issues on it , well all of floridas roads actually ,1 of them is no roads have a shoulder for right turns , that causes jam ups and accidents for sure , the other thing Ive noticed is the amount of trucks heading to the land fill, heres the issue, people behind slow moving trucks sometimes get impatient and pass without really looking . I have been doing 5 over the limit on that road and have had cars pass me like I was in reverse, and with an attitude too..I understand its a cut through, but its pretty residential and having cars and trucks speeding around on that road causes issues, add to all this the amount of drunk drivers who use it as a cut through for daytona ,you have big problems.solution , I have no clue, nor do I want the job to try and fix it (actually I would take that job) ,but something needs to be done ,I dont think widening it is the answer , they widened normandy and the accidents have gone through the roof and truck traffic has skyrocketed also .because of all the horse farms their is no way to limit truck traffic ,so Im clueless, just putting in my 33.3 cents

S.R. 4-15 & 46 are not the leading cost of vehicular accidents in the state. The two most deadliest roadways that result in the most fatalities in Florida are actually the Everglades Parkway ( Alligator Alley 75 ) & S.R. 90 ( The Tamiami Trail ) which result in nearly 200 accidents per year on each stretch. These facts & records can be easily accessed across the net. In accordance to the FHP & The Volusia County Authorities the leading cause of accidents along S.R. 4-15 & 46 are caused by " Deer ". In 2009 , it was recorded that 58 accidents were caused along the S.R. 46 stretch by " deer " alone , while driver negligence accidents were still fairly on the low side. The widening of S.R. 4-15 will not improve the situation nor make drivers any better then they already are. People will continue to drive like idiots irregardless whether it's widened or not. As far as relieving the traffic and congestion , the ultimate answer would have to be the construction & further expansion of networking roads. Hell look how grid-locked the central Florida vacinity actually is. Other than S.R. 46 and 44 their is no alternate routes to link with Interstate 95 , and most people avoid utilizing Maytown road to cross east. The same thing applies to east Volusia , same situation , either S.R. 46 or 44 to get into Lake County. Reviewing these odds , that's a great distance from 46 to 44 and their are no alternate networks to link with. Traffic congestion is already a major concern all across the Volusia county and just not in the rural vacinity of Deltona / Osteen or within Deltona. The county really needs to develop a better network system and construction of additional road-ways to try and alleviate the traffic concerns instead of paying the tax-payers money to expand road-ways which or other idiotic idea's that don't play in the factor of alleviating the congestion. These stupid politicians are wasting our money and patience on idea's and projects which are making matters worse instead of relieving the initial problems at hand. Put our money to good use instead of wasting it on bullcrap. If you put two and two together it starts to make sense why so many view our region as a " GRID-LOCKED DEATH TRAP ". I wish more people would wake up to this fact !

You should try living in osteen it is so hard to get out on the maine road in the morning and at night that we have to time our trips inbetween rush hours they need to put a light up someplace to stop trafic to help us get out on the road. there have been many accidents in Osteen for people getting impatient and just going for it.

Boy I agree! A redlight is needed at the Foxhead. Just try to make a left turn out of that place after a few belts.

You state the truth. Here's another truth. The reason isn't the safety of the Osteen residents it's for Northey's Farmton plan, plain and simple.Dpn't worry the stupid of the area will put her back into office. Deltona lied when they said they had no money for the project and then found millions.

Last month I was on 415 and a Semi was right on my ass so I just started slowing down just to make a point......I was going 62 in a 55. A FHP cruiser saw this and pulled us both over. I have a DV tag which is only for 100% disabled veterans and the Officer threw the book at the driver and with a reckless driving and following too closely citations.... he'll lose his job in a heartbeat. What a fool. Widening 415 will just result in more problems but just in 2 lanes instead of one

If we keep putting the same people back into office this is what you'll get, want it or not.
