I broke down around 5 pm in the middle of last Friday's snowstorm (12-19-08) Blown Clutch - had to ask the owner of Sassi Deli if I could leave the car overnight - couldn't get a tow truck anywhere. The dealer said they'd get it by Saturday - The Deli Owner told me if the car wasn't moved by 5 AM the next morning he'd have it towed himself at my expense - I attempted to appeal to his humanity given the extenuating circumstances - No Deal - I had to get up at 1 am drive over there and make certain I removed the car - The kindly Ossining PD gave me a ticket for parking on the sidewalk to boot- Nice town you got there.
Anyhow I nicely shoveled off the 3 square ft. of real estate I had deprived the poor owner of this establishment after they towed my car to the dealer at 4:15 AM in the morning - Needless to say I will be fulfilling my future Italian epicurean needs elsewhere.

I hate to hear that one of our local establishments treated someone like that. In the scheme of things, is the loss of one parking space so important that we treat our fellow man so heartlessly.
I hope you will not hold it against our entire town. We are not all so unkind.
Long time Ossining Resident

As the deli owner and a life-time Ossining resident, I need to respond this post. We have only six parking spots and December 24th is the busiest day of the entire year. This man's car was across 2 parking spots and the sidewalk leading to the main entrance. Still, we allowed the car to remain there for four hours while we were open. He stayed in his car, never came in to ask for help or get a cup of coffee. We had to go outside to see him to see what the issue was. Even then, we allowed ample time for him to find a tow truck, while we could have had a tow truck there in 10 minutes. Our customers had to go out into the street around the car to enter the deli, and if they slipped because we could not properly plow and shovel, they would be suing us, not spheero. People picking up their orders couldn't get close to the door. The fact that you got a ticket shows that the car was in a dangerous spot and needed to be moved asap.
We have let many cars stay in our parking lot over the years only to have the owners remove them far later than promised. Delis rely on a constant turn over of their parking spots to make a day's pay. Having a car parked for 24 hours can blow an entire week's profit. December 24th carries us through the winter. According to the date of posting, it's clear that instead of getting a friend to help push the car out of the way while we were trying to make a living, he was home posting on the Internet. Our response was based on many years of experience with this type of request. Countless times we have called taxis and tow trucks for people without any thanks or the decency to even buy a cup of coffee from us.
Since 1974, our loyal customers and neighbors know that Sassi Deli supports our community, through sponsorship of sports teams, donation of food, helping families in need or short on cash, participting in local fundraisers, and much more.
