That is certainly an option, that I think some take. But I think that teachers are very highly educated professionals. Like others, (dentists, doctors, etc) they must continually update their education and skills. So if you figure their income if they work the whole year and include reasonable PAID vacation and sick days, they are not overpaid. At the U of M you must have a bachelor degree in your subject and then a masters in education before you can earn a teacher's license. Just like in any area of life, some are better than others and some should retire. I don't think that is the norm.

I am not talking about the teachers - I am talking about the admin staff in the office. Our friend Mr. Mike Wyatt is collecting FULL pension - he made it so people could stock pile their PTO and some of the folks that were his buddies got paid cash for that time. That is the waste I am talking about. nick wrote: I am an Anoka-Hennepin teacher and would like to clarify for you. A full-time teacher in AH gets 12 days a year. Three of these days can be used as personal (vacation) days. If you need more personal days than this you must take a dock day where you lose your salary for the day and have to pay the district for the a day's worth of benefits. Unused personal days do not carry over. You get just three per year. As for sick days. They do carry over. However, if you have a baby, maternity/paternity days come out of your "banked" sick days. The district provides no maternity time. Secondly, a teacher must bank 103 days by the end of his or her career to qualify for the 403b match retirement program In the 403b the district will match $1000-$1500 dollars a year, using our saved sick time. Maybe better than some businesses, but worse than many of my friends in the business world.
