I had first met Fr. Carr way back when he was at St Francis Seminary in Milwaukee WI.. That was at the time when the seminarians came into the schools to teach religious education. I was fortunate to get him in my class. I was in 6th grade & making my Confirmation that year. Just before our Conformation he came & gave each of us in the class a small gift & instructed us not to open it until after our Confirmation. In it was a small stone with our name on the top of it & when you turned it over it said "you are a witness". I still have it. That took him alot of time to go out & collect all of those stones & to personalize each of them. He had made a inpact on my life. I didn't realize it until years later just how much. He truely was a man of God. He lived his life fully & in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus. May he rest in peace walking his Black Lab dog that he always wished for. Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord & let the perpetual light shine upon him. May his souls & all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

My two daughters went to that teen thing at the Place 2 B for the first time. One wasn't quite 16 yet. When I asked what time that I should return and pick them up, I was told the last time of the opening. Well, I guess there was a rule that if you were going to stay after a certain earlier time, that you had to be 16 or over. Well, my one couldn't stay. She tried calling on the phone to get me to come earlier and pick her up. Our phone was busy because the handset wasn't sitting correctly on the unit. Father Carr kicked her out in the cold, without a coat and she walked all the way home in the freezing weather.

When she came home, we realized that the phone wasn't sitting properly. Needless to say, my girls neve went back there again.

When I told my daughter, now 19, that Fr. Carr had died, she relived that story. She said he was a mean, old guy, not all that special, and just like everyone else---some good and some bad.

I met Fr.Carr while helping during a summer over 10 years ago. I think of the work and pride of this man. Totally dedicated to the poor and less fortunate. The shelter, clinic, meals 3 times a day separate table for children alone. Having us transport a women a 12PM from a womens shelter to another one in another town. Getting jobs , furniture ,perscriptions, Paying for camp and items for it for children and the movies. Never complaining and all with complete trust that God will provide,He never hid his roman collar and when asked about it he said I'm not ashamed of who I am. Was so happy . I'm sure our Dear Lord said Marty come home Job well done. Can we say the Same. Some were jelous .

Fr. Carr came into the lives of my family and friends 38 years ago. He impacted us in a way that would change our lives and make us better people. I watched him touch one life after another, whether it be a lost teenager or elderly person. He was the most selfless and Christian person I have ever met. He was proud of his Irish heritage and his love of God. He had a laugh that was contagious! He has left so many many of us with his legacy...let us carry it on...

He was forever forgiving, just as he would be to someone (gas for less) that for whatever reason in their life, could or would actually post something so unsubstantial and unessesary, considering the death of Fr.Carr .....or anyone.

He will be in our hearts forever...

May the road rise to meet you...may the wind be always at your back...an until we meet again
may God hold you in the palm of his hands...

Thank you Father Marty Carr for your 33 years as a priest! You have served me well! I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me drink, in prison and you visited me, sick in bed or hospital and you were by my side. When you did this to my many brothers and sisters, you did this for me!

I love you Father Marty for all the people you have served. Whenever asked how many you served, you said only one - Jesus Christ. Well, brother I, Jesus Christ, am now welcoming you home to our eternal Place 2B - HEAVEN!

You have worked, prayed, played, served and were so kind to many and now it is time for you to leave your Place 2B in Oshkosh for your work is now in one way complete, and yet through the hundreds of volunteers you will continue to serve the poor.

With Love,
Jesus Christ

PS- "I pray for gas for less" and those who are in some way hurt by this great man. He meant only good, but was human, not perfect, made mistakes and it is those people I choose to do my work. For it was those people 2,000 years ago I left in charge of my church. Peter and the rest were not in any way perfect and they hurt people without trying but they loved God with their whole being just as this man Father Martin Carr. He was and still is the Father of Oshkosh. He took no money for pay and took no money with him to heaven. All the many gifts were always put back into Father Carr's Place 2B. Father Carr's Place 2B will continue with the help of me (God)!

Father Carr was a great person and a great follower of Christ and through his works I know the type of man Jesus Christ was. Peace be with all of you all the days of your life. Nothing else needs to be said.

I am having a problem to believe what you wrote, Before you trash other people good name, you need to ask why your daugher did not relieved that story the first place. If she told you what she tell you now, I think you will go over there the first thing in the morning to ask him why your daughter was kicked out in the cold. There is two sides of the stories. I did not know Father Carr died becasue I was oversea.

There always been rumors that Carr REALLY LIKED boys and just HATED girls. He turned away girls from his shelter. He was one those priests that never got caught. I've met him. He always seemed kind of strange. He was also obnoxious when sought freebees and discounts. He is probably in Hell now thinking about you.
