Sorry all the forum has disappeared again.

Too much spam and porn from Russia spelled its demise once again.

Too bad.

Actually, where are all the discussions at???

Nobody has anything to discuss?? Well, I will start something then.

Does anyone have anything to say about the Tim Hortons going up in Tawas? I wish we could have that kind of growth here in Oscoda.

Growth in Oscoda??? Well, that f'd up plan to redo US 23 is not going to help any. Now that there is only one lane of traffic going north and south, traffic is gonna be way backed up from the light at River Road to Lord knows where--esp. in the summer months.

The only thing I have to say is,"Tim, I'm on my way"!!! The only thing I have to say about the growth in Oscoda is "you reap what you sow". I'm pretty sure the dragstrip is supposed to be the hormone that helps us with our growth spurt. If you read the propaganda you might also actually believe the school is doing so well it has the secret answer to No Child Left Behind! Get it together Oscoda! There are many good people living here that deserve better!

Did you have to wait in a line of 25 cars to get a chance to pass through the downtown light too?
I can understand your pain!

My opinion for the lane change is SOMEONE thinks it wll keep people in town longer. They think that slowing down traffic will keep them shopping longer. HAH! When I go through town during the heaviest traffic times, I take an alternate route.

I do ALL my shopping, groceries and otherwise, in Tawas and Alpena. I know I can find the items in stock and the prices are more affordable. The savings and affordability are well worth the extra gas to get there and back. We need G R O W T H here desparately. We need more business's to want to locate here, and be allowed to locate here. More business's generate more jobs, hence more jobs - more money, hence more money -more spending, etc etc etc.

I'm not bashing our city. I love it here. I'm just trying to express an opinion of what I think is going on here. Someone needs to think about making some drastic changes in helping to improve the economy here and think about making them soon. I would hate to see a wonderful place as this to live, turn into a dried up ghost town, with everyone moving out because it has nothing left to offer. I moved here 10 years too late. I liked the way things were, better, when the Base was still here.

LOL I hadn't heard that one before! It keeps people in town longer that's for sure but you can almost feel the tension as everyone waits their turn in line. Politics, "too many chefs in the kitchen" and not taking the time to make informed decisions is taking its toll on the town. Oh and I love the idea of a huge sign at Furtaw Field (another idea that held someone hostage until they succumbed to stupidity). Maybe it will be framed in logs to help keep the atmosphere going!
Oh, the color is so important because OAS colors are blue and white and the sign is red and white.
WHO CARES!!!!!! Maybe they should associate themselves with a school district that keeps its test scores higher. OAS is trying to market itself as the "hub" of the community. I'm embarrassed by that fact! I do not live here because of the school system, I live here in spite of it.

Lol! Your absolutely right about too many chefs. And the tension of waiting in line is double frustrating when your trying to get out of the Post Office or the bank, or for THAT matter, trying to get out of ANY of the business's on the west side of the street in that area. OMG, don't put the idea of framing the sign in logs,,,,someone might take you serious, heaven forbid.

I've learned to "go right" and eventually I can make it around the corner at the light to go back in the direction I wanted to go in the first place. As always, I feel like I'm running in circles. I just thought of a brilliant idea; we could make the downtown area the dragstrip. That way you'd still be driving in circles but going much faster to get there! I'm with you, I feel this town has lots of potential. Maybe we should start asking ourselves the real question when trying to determine what's best; "What Would Paul Bunyan Do" (or WWPBD). We could sell t-shirts and bracelets and bumper stickers!

Hey, that might not be a bad idea. But I'll explain what I meant about keeping people in town and the shopping. I think the idea was to slow traffic down considerably so passer bys' will take more notice of the business's,,,, like when you're in line at the grocers or department stores, they have all the small item racks on both sides of you, and of course because you
re stopped and just standing there, you are looking at the items and maybe even pick up one or two and add them to your cart. No?

Also, I have a question. Maybe you can answer this one. Who decides to change the way the lanes on a road are to be. Does the township request the change from MDOT, or does MDOT make the decision on thier own? How this is decided will explain alot to me.3789

Since that is US-23 I think the City is not the first in line with the say.

I would expect the state has been given the responsibility to oversee the US highways in their state with some minor governence by the Feds (after all they are probably providing some of the money).

I would expect the County gets some say as well since they are probably 'hired' by the state to do some of the maintenance - such as snow plowing.

So my guess would be primarily M-DOT. However, recall this was a recommendation of the 'Cool City's' consulting company and so ostensibly there was some local inout.

I would expect the Downtown business folks probably believe it wil help with business and based on that were at least willing to give it a try. I don't think any of them are doing a 'land office' business these days. I suspect they had an awful lot of input to the Coll City's consultant.

IMHO - I don't think it will work as intended in Oscoda. It is a pain in Tawas and does not cause me to want to stop - it makes me wish there were a bypass. There is one going North in Oscoda - Lake street I think. But once the word gets out, it might get really busy. Then watch what happens as the residents there rightfully get upset about the additional traffic.

I see accidents coming.
