When it all started it was a great way to get TV shows, and movies...WITH NO COMMERCIALS! Now we pay a fortune and get a million commercials! Go figure. If they are making money off commercials, they should cut the ever growing rates they charge us! They are screwing us every which way but loose! GO INTERNET FOR YOUR ENTERTAIMMENT!

Um, you can watch internet video on your large screen tv. Why doesn't this story mention that? You simply connect via a VGA chord and a seperate chord for audio, preferably via laptop, right into your newer tv and/or surround sound or stereo system. I do it all the time. You don't get to watch everything that is currently on pay tv, but I get all of the tv I need. It's a little more hassle of course, but you get to watch what you want. I have the $10 'antenna service' through comcast and get enough channels there to satisfy me for that price, then I supplement with the 'net'. Kids can even watch cartoon network vids! Then I spend the $100 in savings each month on more important things like going out to eat!

Hulu's move to a premium subscription model shows where Internet TV viewing is going. Eventually, there will be enough outlets to view everything that's on cable now, probably Internet cable too, and every one will charge a fee. It'll end up costing more than cable to get the same content.

If your computer has HDMI you only need one cord as it will handle both video & audio. Either way it's pretty simple. My friend just got the new Droid X phone, which also has an HDMI port, so he can watch videos from his phone right on the tv.

Why pay for cable when you can splice into your neighbor's line for free?

He canceled his Time Warner cable service and connected his flat-panel TV to the Internet to watch sitcoms and his other favorite shows, using products from Apple and Boxee.

We're dropping cable and moving to just high-speed internet that is not part of a "bundle" Our last cable bill was $160, HD, a couple of movies and HBO. We've been streaming netflix to the TV from an old computer box, watching glee on the internet and using a VOIP phone provided by our cell phone provider for $10/month. The new internet connection will be faster and cheaper than comcast ($50/mo full price after the promotion period). Comcast is a dinosaur for anyone with a smidgin of technical savy. It will not be long before your cell phone is your internet hot spot and you'll get to pick from entertainment vendors worldwide.

Cancelled cable. Still watch all of my shows in HD. Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. I'd be willing to pay for it, but they don't offer any alternatives other than overpriced cable TV, so I find them myself.

We disconnected the TV about a year ago. I missed seeing a few shows for about a week. Now I don't even know what I'd do with a TV. We just use Youtube, Hulu, Dailymotion, Nickjr, and, huh, thedailyshow... That's about it... and the kids skip all the stupid commercials telling them I need to buy them sugar junk and plastic junk while they watch their cartoons. If we want a specific movie we rent it for a dollar from the movie box, go to the theater, or pick up a torrent. Cable can suck on that!

I cancelled my cable over a year ago. I use my PS3 as a media server. I get the shows and movies i want online, run PS3 media server program, go to my PS3 and watch what i want, anytime i want. No more commercials, no more getting raped by comcast.

Nearly three years ago my satellite tv company screwed me to the wall. I vowed to never use them again and I couldn't be happier. Between itunes, Netflix, Hulu, and some other places I have found I am able to see everything I ever wanted and then some. Thanks Direct TV! Couldn't have done it without you and your sub-par customer service department!

Anything to not pay the cable company is worth taking a look at. Cable bills of 150-200 a month is just stupid. The bills just kept creeping up with my Comcast and the service stayed the same or got worse with regards to channels and picture quality. I cut 40 a month from my bills by moving to DTV and DSL and am getting more than I got with my Comcast internet and TV.

hulu has a terrible selection and I don't see paid TV going anywhere. All these clever companies will take it on the nose when providers start putting bandwidth caps on your internet connection.

Anyone who pays for cable if you have the internet is a moron. If you can't find all your favorite shows online you probably shouldn't be using the internet.

We seem to left out of this article. We have an antenna on our roof and get the basic channels. We get network stuff as well. We do not have the videos and movies and we turn to reading books when we don't like what is on the 20 some channels we receive.

if the market shifts, the smart operators will follow, and you will have your HBO without 45 variations of the Bad Computer Animation Channel. on any physical medium you choose.
but before that happens, there is the "Pioneer Problem..." you get all the arrows in your back.

We swapped pay TV for netflix. The few shows I might want to watch on primetime, I can purchase just those shows from Zune or Amazon. We use Xbox 360 for Netflix and Zune, so we didn't need additional hardware purchases. We are so little interested in new shows, we save hundreds a year even with the few we purchase.
