For 40 years, I've had people tell me that I was crazy because I remembered a "puppet dog" who sometimes did the weather on a tv station that I tuned in to, in South Bend, 45 years ago! Even people older than I who have lived there all their lives had NO memory of this.....dog!
Aha!!!!!!!!!! He (it) did exist dammit!!!!

Oh my! I have talked to many older than me that don't remember him! How could that be? Maybe they didn't have a TV? That photo you put up is the only one I have ever been able to find of him. I even contacted the TV station who reports they have no photos!! He is such a wonderful childhood memory. So I am certainly with you!!

Yes he was on late in the agternoons and evevn had some talented kids on to perform whatever it is they did well. My brother actually was on his show because he played the drums very well and it was local. I can't believe I found this. It just came up in conversation and I thought I would googlre it and wala, here it is. Good to know someone else remebers this. I'm 59 and remember it well.

Dexter David "A Rolling Stone Gathers no Moss" Donovon III! I watched that show (Kidsville, USA) every afternoon after high school (Riley) and before I went to work at Goldblatt's (in the Town and Country Shopping Center) when I lived in South Bend, IN. A great show put together by a great talent. Later, when I was in the Army, a friend who went to Notre Dame said that D.D. Donovon was hugely popular at that university. Glad I found this site as I was beginning to think that all of this happened in an alternate reality.

We were "Summer People" from Chicago who owned a cottage on Long Lake. I spent lots of summers there & every night watched "Donovan Duz the Weather" on local TV. I'd never miss the show! Now I can finally prove that I'm not crazy - a Dog doing the weather??? I'm vindicated! Of course, that's when the nightlt news was only 15 minutes long.

I was actually on this show when I was 12 years old! My friends and I formed a band called the Jaguars and we were asked to go on and play "I Can't get no Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones! I am guessing we were awful but I will never ever forget it!

similar story--people thought i was crazy when i described the dog having a cartoon show and doing the weather. who was the puppeteer? i had heard it credited to bob clampett of beanie and cecil fame but i doubt that. beanie and cecil were on wgn at approx the same time. dd may also have done lamplight theater and signed off by hitting the lamp with his head. memory is fuzzy on that one tho.

How great was that show! Remember when Erv Shoemaker (the puppeteer) got into trouble because the story arc got to be too intense for little kids and they had a prime time show for adults only to explain what they were doing?
Then, I remnenmber when D.D.Donovan and Tagalong were on the front page of the South Bend Tribune's TV section. And I think the Trib owned Channel 22 where Captain Pliney reigned on Popeye Theater. Wow!
I bought the WSJV anniversary DVD but it quit working. Does anybody know where I could buy a copy????

I remember DDD the third and the 3 stooges. Intro song, "It's time for the Donovan show, with Curly, Larry and Moe. The stooges 3 and you and me and..." All I remember. Classic. Also remember the weather. Some time later, they had "Weather with Wendy," set to the 5th Dimension's hit at the time, "Beautiful Balloon."

I remember he used to give the weather around the time Shock Theater came on. We used to get to stay up late and watch it on the weekends. He is still remembered.

Don't know if I should bother, but DD Donovan was not alone. The puppeteer was Irv (Erv) Shoemaker, who was my stepfather at the time he was doing this work. He also worked with other "characters," the most delightful of which was "Tagalong" a cute little puppy who couldn't say her "R's" very well. The puppeteer on this was my mother.(I do believe after they divorced, circa 1960, that a later wife took over this function, and they relocated to the midwest.) They had a show out of Elkhart Indiana, known as "Kidsville, U.S.A." which was a host show for the Three Stooges, and for Soupy Sales. Irv also worked for Bob Clampett at the time, doing the voiceovers for Cecil, Dishonest John, and others for the Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent series out of L.A.

I was on the show when I was in first grade, 1963.I won a Schwinn Tiger bicyle and it was presented to me by DD Donovan. It was a lucky birthday contest sposored by McDonalds. My birthday is February 29th.Since i only get a birthday evey four years I was an obvious choice for the winner. It was the time of my life. If McDonalds ever got that footage it would make a fantastic commercial for them. They asked me about McDonalds and my brother had taken me there for the first time in my life. I was really impressed by the burger fries and shake and i expressed my enthusiasm in a way that could only be done by a child.

My wife and I grew up in Elkhart and I remember her saying she was at the tv studio for some event and the puppet was lying on a desk and she said it had always been so life-like she almost expected it to sit up.

Used to watch this on Ch. 28 (WSJV), South Bend, Indiana.

DD Donovan also had a young sidekick named Tag A Long.
They always ended the show with a song about attending church.

Through the week
we live & laugh & labor....
but, on Sundays
don't forget to Love Thy Neighbor
Let's go to church one day this weekend
Let's go to church side by side.

I remember the show well. I'm curious about the station call letters on the picture. KCRG is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The show originated in Elkhart, so it must have been syndicated.
