recently,Congress passed a resolution officially apologizing to African Americans for the harm done to them from slavery before the Civil War to discrimination and segregation with the Jim Crow Laws,However even after slavery was out lawed in 1865 one hundred and forty four years ago later we can still feel the effects of the hatred committed against our African Americans brothers and sisters. How can we restore deep wounds that cause such division and hate over such a long period of time.I for one would love to see everyone pull together and help one another, and forgive. You know that is what God wants us to do.

it is wrong to do this. We should never be responsible for the sins of our fathers.

In addition, blacks owned slaves also so why should there be any type of resolution of apology.

i watched a news clip from dallas texas i think it was friday night, and there is this neighborhood found a grave sight, they started their own investigation on it and found out that it was a white cemetary for the soldiers that was fighting in the civil war.well the cemetary was so grown up and trees and vines ,bushes were so thick that people werent even aware it was there. So this whole neighborhood pulled together and spent their whole weekend cleaning that place up and did an awsome job.So the city of Dallas now has a new historical place ,and the city also congradulated the Black american's on doing a fine job. I think I would like to live there.I also think that we all could pull together like that it would be awsome.

Some people tend to forget that there many poor white people in the south who did not benefit from slavery. The richer white folks are mostly the ones who benefitted. Slavery was wrong and should never have happened but not all white folks were to blame. It is done and over with now and time to live in the present. I agree that we all need to live in harmony and peace. No good can come from dwelling on past mistakes.

Amen, We are all God's people and we all need to stick together. We do not need government controlling our health care either. No matter who you are, nor the race, if govt. health care comes about, get ready, you will only get desperate medical care when the govt. says so. Take a stand now!!! Write your senators. We do not need socialized health care. What comes after that?? Take a stand and please voice your rights. America is a Christian Nation and if you are a Christian, we need to have our voices heard. We can not stand by and let this happen.

something to think of, a good percentage of whites came to the colonies and the states as indentured servants. They were treated the same as slaves. Though they were under contract, the contracts were often extended because of more debt, as punishment or other reasons. The reality is, a lot of whites came to america as slaves too.

You do not hear a lot about this. Guess what, some blacks had indentured white servants.

where is those the apology for them?

The ones who should have apologized long ago are dead and gone to meet the true judge of all mankind. I can say I am sorry that someone else did something, but that does not mean that I, myself, did it. Slavery has always been an evil thing to do. It can come in different disguises
such as the indentured servants. That reminds me of many people in this area, now deceased, who lived on plantations, including whites. The plantation owners had a store on the premises where the workers/tenants or whatever they were called, had to purchase their goods on credit. Once they were in debt to the plantation owner,
they became like slaves. Always working hard, but no way to get out of debt, while the plantation owners became rich because of greed. Reminds me of the old song about a mine worker titled 'Sixteen Tons'. Goes like this: "You load sixteen tons, and what do you get? One day older and deeper in debt. Saint Peter, don't you call me,'cause I can't go ...I owe my soul to the company store.

We tend to think of the people of Moses as white, but that all took place in the Middle East. They were probably not white.

Every race of people have been enslaved at some time in history. Many times by their own race from neighboring countries. The Roman empire enslaved people from many races including us white folks. I wonder if I can get some money outta that. lol.

yea you are right about white slaves.I remember listening to my daddy tell stories about when he was just a boy working on the farm with his dad,and he told us work from sun up to sundown 6 days a week, and sometimes 7 days depending on the crops.when it was payday the boss would hand out vouchers, and they were only good for the city whitch the boss owned. If i can remember correctly i think that Lee Wison Co. was like that but I am not certain. But to me I feel like that was white slavery, also if you were in debt with these people you could not get a job somewhere else, unless the place that you go to work at satisfied your debt with the other farmer.I can't imaginehaving to live like that now,we all are so spoiled, I thank God everyday for my life and my family ,he has blessed us in so many ways. Amen. I liked your post HISTORY,reading that brings back a lot of memories, especially from Wilson my birth town.
