The white wolf trudged along
His heart aching for his lost love
Who had recently left him
For the Great Wolf Spirit above.

He wandered around the woods
Having no special place to go,
When he came upon a glade,
and spied a beautiful rose in the snow.

He was so strongly attracted to it
That he felt compelled to go near
And paced around the flower.
His feelings still so unclear

He lay down beside it
Upon the snowy ground.
To protect it form the wind
That was blowing all around.

The rose lay quietly
Under the blanket of snow
Bound by the roots beneath
She had no way to go

The beauty in the forest
Tried but failed to reach the sun
She feared that her very existence
Was soon to be undone.

Even with the warmth from the wolf
She seemed inherently to know
That it would take a miracle
For her to survive the snow.

Her petals began to drop
As she began to grieve
That soon the wolf would tire
And then would choose to leave

But the wolf stayed beside her
Vowed they would never part
The rose had awakened love
Long dormant in his heart

The storms of winter passed
Sun again caressed the ground
The rose began to flourish
Nourished by his love newly found

The wolf concerned about the rose
Yet longing for his den
Pulled the rose out of the ground
And carried it from the glen

He neared the entrance to his cave
And saw a brilliant light
Startled he dropped the rose
and began to run in fright

Then he heard a familiar howl
and he turned just in time to see
The rose turn into his mate
He questioned how this could be?

She said, "My beloved, my mate,
The Great Wolf Spirit from above
Saw our pain and sent me as a rose
To test the loyalty of your love."

She walked slowly towards him
Her fur glistening in the sun
A tear ran down his cheek
Knowing they would be as one.
