I hate the state of Arkansas. The whole state is rural and because of size it lacks in entertainment, nightlife, shopping, quality food, etc. The state is not growing much, if at all mostly by retirees. Most people in the state have an anti-growth attitude because they are staunchly opposed to any kind of change that will mess up the "1950s utopia" that is Arkansas. Most young people with a college degree decide to move to Dallas or another city for better job opportunities. The state lacks quality nightlife and restaurants. The state revolves around a new Wal Mart opening or going to Chili’s for a “good” dining experience. I laugh at everybody who dresses up once per year to go to the Olive Garden thinking they are experiencing "fine dining". They have no idea what they are missing. The whole state completely shuts down for a Willie Nelson concert or a Univ of Arkansas home football game. Also, the transit sucks, impossible to live without a car. Also, the crime rates, education rankings and poverty rankings are extremely high. Arkansas ranks in the top 10% of all three in those categories. If you need a breath of urban air, its hard to find as the only city anywhere near Arkansas is Memphis and that isn't that great of place. To experience a real city the nearest places are Dallas and Kansas City which are a major drive.

In addition, the state is dominated by extreme fundamentalist Baptists and Pentecostals who use the force of law to force their "good Christian morals" on the mass population, and most of the population is supportive of it. In Arkansas there is a warped view of what "Christian morals" are to include war, guns, and hatred of anybody who isn't white, protestant, heterosexual, has a southern accent, and born and raised in Arkansas. Most of the state is dry except for the larger towns. Extreme homophobia is a way of life and if you are gay you are pretty much ostracized from society. Chances are high your car or home will be vandalized, you will be physically threatened, or even fired from your job (as I was). Even if you are straight but don't live up to the macho Southern male stereotype you will be looked down on. Getting jobs in Arkansas largely depend on networking which is usually done through your local Baptist church. If you are not a "good Christian" as in you aren't involved in church every time the door is open and involved in its outreach ministries, it will be harder to find employment. Leaving Arkansas was the best thing that ever happened to me, Charlotte is one trillion times better than anything in Arkansas.

Unknown I really feel sorry for yall but glad you decided to leave before we had a chance to change you. Dallas isn't all that but a brunch of sinners with nothing better to do than fight, get drunk, beat up your spouse and be another sodom. Why don't you read the bible for a change. You might learn a thing or two.

You haven't been living in Arkansas. You've been living in La La Land. You stated about hatred towards anyone that isn't white. I'm white with black and hispanic friends. I don't know anyone that is hated or doesn't feel welcome here. I know many Pentecostals and I've never known them to force their Christian morals on anyone. I respect your opinion, but you also have to respect that the things you find important in life (nightlife, fine dining...etc.) might not be important to others. Some people just focus on family and not taking for granted the things God has already blessed us with. In the end, the nightlife, nice shopping, and fine dining won't matter. It's how you treat people and how you live your life.

Here in Arkansas we love the laid back lifestyle. Just because we love the simple things an appreciate what God has given us. It don't mean we are simple minded. Sure we're different than the city folks but, we know what we want in life. If you like the fast lifestyle an big city thing. Well thats fine. Quit knocking on Arkansas folks. We love all Arkansas has to offer. Men can still hunt here. Our Church's are not dominating like you think. Some of the best churchs are right here in Arkansas.

I actually agree with alot he said. It might not be Arkansas all the way around, but I DO KNOW that OSCEOLA has nothing to offer, the kids are disrespectful, dont care about their education n their parents are so drugged that they could care less either, the people here are horribly rude, un-educated, ignorant, n depressed looking, there is nothing here to offer, nothing for kids to do here besides the community center to keep them off the streets n off drugs, n all yall do is put up a defence n not actually do anything about it!!! I have only lived here a couple months, and already set up to move my family out of AR by Feb. back to a place where people are happy, welcoming, educated, things to do and more to offer! Yall just DONT care!

Happiest states: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-12-1... . Arkansas is 18th - FROM THE TOP. Been to a lot of places and agree with how the survey turned out. Of course, it depends on what's important TO YOU.

If you don't like here move!!!!! No ones keepin you here. Glad to see you leave. Who cares if you like it or not. I've been to other places and theres no place like home and for me thats ARKANSAS. Where else in the world can you be cooking dinner and not have everything and run to the store in five minutes and still have dinner on time. Not Dallas or Alanta!!!!If you want to talk about rude people try New Jersey, michigan for just a few.

HAHA! Yeah maybe drive less than 5 min to get to a store, thats about anywhere unless you live way out of town, but you have to drive 20min or more to have a variety of eating places and shopping! BUT that wasnt my point... SEE YALL ARE VERY RUDE! yall do NOTHING to better this town! Yall just dont care, you settle for way less, and it dont seem to bother you, this place looks like a ghetto. No wonder people walk around here with their heads down, depressed!!! AND DONT WORRY ILL BE SMILING AND FLIPPING IT OFF OUT THE WINDOW AS I LEAVE THIS PATHETIC SHITT HOLE! FULL OF IGNORANT, UN-EDUCATED, RUDE, DIS-RESPECTFUL PEOPLE! ASSES!!! your prob one of those main ones who are hateful to new comers, just plain rude!

I noticed that too, all these ppl claim to be such christians, and in the bible belt community, but yet your un-welcoming, rude, and alot do drugs ect. and judge other ppl for the smallest things. I have met quite a few ppl here (not from here, of course) that have our same opinion on the matter. I guess after living here your whole life or even for years, if thats all you see and hear around here it grows on you to be that way and act that way. Well I WONT stick around that long to be in a town like this n around these type of ppl, esp raise my child here! NO WAY!!! Yall really need to look in the mirror, tape record n video yourself and look at it, but then again it prob wont help! I was reaised with morals, standards, education, respect, yall have NONE!!!

I as well just got here about 3 months ago, I came to town for a job, so its not like I chose on my own to come here. I was pelled by the way people acted, how they treat people they dont know, how rude they are, and just trying to speak to people is like a chore. I have tried just carrying on a conversation with people here, and yes most are ignorant. Some act like your not even there, some act like your bothering them when you just say hello, and I have went into a few places (like the video store) and they acted like I was bothering them to ask a question, she totally ignored me, rolled her eyes, n gasped!!! I also have a health issue (cervical cancer) n I get my birth control shots through the health dept. I went in right after I moved here to sign my release to get my records transferred, 6 weeks later I called to check in cause a nurse was suppose to call when she recieved them, THEY WERE NEVER SENT by the health dept here, to the health dept nor the cancer clinic in the state I moved from, 6 WEEKS!!! I HAVE CANCER! that is nothing to play with, they got rude with ME, and acted like I was bothering them, when I first spoke with them, without even looking at my records they told me pretty much that my cervical cancer was to big of a hassle for them, n wouldnt give me my B.C shot, but they would look at them anyway (because by law they have to). I still havent heard back from them and its been 2 months now. I will be moving out of this town for mainly that reason and a few others (the other ppl in this town) I wont even try to make friends here because ppl here have ruined me even trying! So yall continue with your Ignorance n bad attitudes, what goes around comes around, n carma is a mother bear! I have never seen such in my life, n GOD Im sure is shocked by his childrens actions here!!!

Look! you out of towners, I'm sorry if you had a bad time here but don't judge us all by a few. I work here and live here, go to church here. For every out of towner i have come in to contact with i have tried to be nice and polite. I'm sorry than you feel we are rude but look at it from our point of view at least mine. I'm not use to all the traffic, rude people trying to tell me how to do my job when i'm moving as fast as i can. I know how to do my job and don't need you advice! Quit yelling at me or move on. I have already been at work for 12 hours and you come in thinking you are right and next in line or its moving to slow. Look in the mirror at yourself first before you start talkin about folks.
