My.Child takes Algebra 1 at rivercrest and the principal (Mrs.Smith) says that they need to take notes over the rules in the room..I thought that was the whole reason we had to fill out those papers at the beging of the year that said they knew all the rules. but i don't gusses thats good enough... And another thing this girl my child knows wore a short but she had leggins under it an they made her sit in iss because they said it was showing her butt. But now it's ok for the cheer leaders to wear their short skirts...I cant wait for the next school board meeting.

None of the cheerleaders skirts are an inappropiate length and this year they are required to wear the body suits under them because if not the girls shoulders would be showing. PLEASE!!! If you must gripe then please do so about something real such as the parking situation. You should drive out and look at the parking lot. If your child has a small car, you should really be concerned that they are going to rip the bottom of it off.

The school is becoming a joke. Mrs Smith is the laughing stock of the campus. I mean how did a woman who couldnt get hired as a teacher become the Principal ...

You have teachers who spend more time on the highway than in the classrooms, you have administration, who doesnt have a clue ... it's ridiculous. The school board is no help, and good luck in finding out when and WHERE the meeting is being held. The last two times I was going, I go and they have MOVED the meeting, imagine that.

Mr Ford is retiring (thank God) and if we could get rid of Mrs Smith maybe things could improve. Last year, my kid had more internet teachers than actual teachers. Why not just stay at home !!??

I work at Rivercrest and you need to get some facts straight. It is in the hand book that girls can not wear short skirts even with leggings. And if your daughter was sent to ISS, it wasn't for a day, just until someone brought more clothes. We have to go by the rules. State department demands that all forms must be turned in at the beginning of the year and yes they do come and check these things out. If you want to attend the School Board meeting, then call Mr. Fords office and i'm sure he will tell you exactly where it will be and what time.As for Ms. Tolson, yes she sends out alot of students that are trouble makers. If she didn't then they would be NO teaching at all. Come to your childs class and set in there sometimes and see just what goes on. Don't judge until you have been in the classroom for yourself. We have alot of rules and most of them are from the Arkansas Department of Education. If you want to voice your concerns and make changes, please contact them. As for the internet classes, there is only a math, speech and spanish class on line, so I know your child did not have more on line classes than real classes. Students don't have to take notes on following rules, thet do have to take notes on what they are doing in class that day. This helps when taking test.Parents don't realize the struggles our teachers go through each day with uunruley students. The discipline has gotten much better the last 2 or 3 years since Ronnie Smith took over but we still have to maintane order or we would be in trouble. Some students don't have any respect what so ever so unless you are there and seeing for yourself, please don't judge. ask somne of the subs we have and i'm sure they will agree with what i'm saying.

I agree RHS. I don't think teachers realize how much of a distraction one child who is misbehaving can be. When you have 10 in a classroom, it can quickly get out of control. I don't think it's fair to ask students who actually come to school and learn to sit in class and have to deal with the students who couldn't care less. As far as kicking a child out of class goes, what is left? A teacher can do NOTHING anymore if they want to keep their license. I know that people are always the first to blame the teacher, and they should actually be looking toward what the students do during the day. I have been at high schools where kids talk to teachers like they are dirt--the respect is not there anymore. It's absolutely ridiculous what people expect from school districts, but then when it comes to their child they want to whine and moan. Rules are rules--whether you are a cheerleader or not. If the handbook says no short skirts, even with leggings, then that child should have been made to sit in ISS. If the parent actually read the paper he or she was signing, then they should not have been surprised at the punishment. I get so sick of people who think that the rules pertain to everyone but them. Things were certainly different when I was in school.

My opinion is that any self respecting person wouldn't be having an issue with short skirts anyways. First, I wouldn't be okay with my daughter breaking the rules. Second, I wouldn't want my daughter wearing clothes that were inappropriate. Last, I pray that my daughter has enough respect for herself that she wouldn't want to wear clothes that were not appropriate. School officials should not even have to monitor a student's attire but that is what it has come to.

All teachers have prep periods and are willing to confer with parents. If you have an issue, your first step should be to call and set up an appointment with that teacher and most of the time the problem can be solved without a lot of drama. If it isn't then maybe you should take it a step further.

a red polo shirt and khaki pants will take care of that dress problem. the school uniform will come if the parents dont watch what there kids are wearing or upholding what they are wearing..

That is why I support school uniforms. I work at a school where they are mandated, and we don't have to worry as much about what the kids are wearing. Yes, teachers do have conference times which are great for meetings. However, I am sure the principal would be happy to allow any parent to sit through any teacher's class for a day or even just an hour. Before people go blaming the teacher and principal for everything, that's what they need to do. I don't teach at RHS, but I am a grad and I know several people who do. Every teacher I know out there says that the kids are hugely disrespectful and would rather talk straight through class than pay attention. In my opinion that is not something that the school can change. Attitude and respect for authority figures has to come from the home. As for having teachers on the highway more than in the classroom, that's what happens in a low socioeconomic area. Mississippi County is feeling the effects of a "brain drain." All of our college grads move to Jonesboro, Paragould, or northwest AR.

OK, let's look at your comments directed to me specifically. I did call and ask about the school board meeting, was told of a time and place. When I arrived there, no one was there. A bus driver told me it must have been moved to another site, which I drove too - guess what no one was there. So the the next month I called back, the secretary didn't know the place or time - DIDN'T KNOW !!! So I called a school board member, he said he hadn't been told where the meeting was going to be held yet ... what is this, some secret society of the Dept of Defense ?? Also, my child had TWO math classes, ONE spanish, and ONE other last year, I apologize for not knowing which class it was exactly. That's a total of FOUR times they had an internet teacher, there are EIGHT periods each day, add in a study hall, and yearbook, so YES, they had more internet teachers.

So while you may work at Rivercrest you my friend are wrong. I think it's a shame that they have to resort to internet classes. Maybe if we trimmed some of the administrative costs rolling out the window the teachers could be paid MORE. And if you were to rid yourself of the deadweight teachers who spend more time on the highways, internet, and talking in the principals office, a little teaching could be done - with better teachers !

As for the school uniforms I am in FULL SUPPORT of those !!! It will gladly be welcomed among many parents.

And when I said "teachers on the highway" I meant during school hours. It's amazing how many teachers are in Wal-Mart, Mi Pueblo, or Sand Bar during school hours, or are traveling up and down Hwy 61.

School uniforms would take a lot of the hastle out of school shopping. It would be more cost effective to have a uniform. This would also take some of the "click" problems out of the school. If all their clothes were the same noone would know who has money and who doesn't. The only difference would be their shoes! On the cheerleader front....I was a RHS cheerleader and our skirts were never that tight or short. It's annoying to see the girls out there half naked in school approved uniforms when they wouldn't be allowed to wear something that short in school. How distracting.....and what do the boys their age think of it!
