If you go back to my original post, I actually listed 4 places to start at. But, we've got a few butthurt fire"men" who can't handle the heat that's about to be put on them.
At the end of the day, they are grossly over paid. They shouldn't be paid to sit around and watch tv and sleep, etc. same with the PD and it's officers that have a habit of "parking" for hours on end. My personal opinion is that I think the city could save a significant amount of money but cutting back on the FD. Pay by call is fair. Except to those riding the fire department because it's easy money. Those are the ones getting their panties in a wad.
Just like I said. This can come into play with the PD as well, also including "higher ups" by taking a percentage.
Anyway. I stand behind what I've said. It is what it is. Weather it hurts your feelings or not.
Okay if you are so intelligent then post your name or place of employment so we will be able to share our opinion of you.Thats just it I bet your either a Meth head or a low life loser living off the system.....You may need to be a little more careful because if too many people loose their jobs who will be paying taxes so you can sit on your worthless butt and live off all the honest, hard working people.I bet your sitting there right now thinking about all those foodstamps and commidity cheese you will be given this month.Enjoy your badgering for now because Karma is a bitch and she knows where you live.....:)

Here the deal rusty axe what everybody point is, with a town of 7900 people you don't need 16 full time firemen all we are saying is bump it down to 10 and have maybe 6 vol fireman, all fires come and go 1 month u might have 1 call the next 20 calls so is there really a need for 16 full time ? No it's not and that would save 250k a year just right there, and as far as ISO rating who cares everybody moving out of town anyways do if it does go up due to cut of the fireman than who cares cause in the next 3 to 4 years Osc will b a ghost town.com pare town to Osc size and see how many they got on there FD staff it won't be 16.
You ask "Who cares?" I care! I have a home in Osceola that I have loved and lived in for over half my life.I want to stand by my neighbors and share good times in the future like we have in the past.I bet you dont even live in Osceola. Why wish for the fall of your home town?

Sorry to disappoint you but I am not a public servant. If I held that position I would be proud to have the job, but I am employed and I work everyday to make a difference in peoples lives.I will support the fire department and the police department.....Thats my choice.

Actually, I am the wife of an Osceola police sergeant, whom has been on the force many years. I am the spouse of a city employee, whom if these go into effect, it will directly effect me, my husband and our child/ren. Yet, I STILL believe there should be cuts made among city employees. Beginning with the fire department, and the police department, as I stated in my first post. And no, I am a working wife and mother and both have never used drugs or road the system. This is clean cut and dry. It is what it is. Frankly, if you're a fireman with a Facebook, I'm probably on your Facebook. Surprise surprise, huh? Yes, it is very much possible to be or be married to a city employee who this directly effects, yet still agree with it.

The problem with all this discussion is that some of you have no idea what you're talking about. Those at that work for OFD and OPD put their lives at risk every time they answer a call. Personally I don't think many of them are paid enough for what they do! You complain about the police 'just parking somewhere' well if you want then to drive constantly, you do realize that is MORE money that will be spent in gas. With gas prices being what they are I think that is a 'duh' situation. You talk about the firemen that 'sit all day', well have you ever gone up there and spent the day with them to know what they do? Have you had to wake up in the middle if the night and try to save someone's home or even their life! These are things you should think about. I know many that work for both departments and have yet to hear one complain about the cuts they may be facing. Are they worried because if bills, some yes, but complain they have not. Why are you all do fixed in these 2 departments? What about the garbage, is 2 days a week really necessary? You all talk about other towns, I know several that are this size or slightly larger and they only run once a week. What about the mosquito truck, I mean it really does nothing for the problem and it is obvious who is who....I have seen them back up to 'people's yards and sit there for a few minutes then move on down the street. Waste if money, I think so, but that I'd just my opinion. I'm just throwing these things out there since most of you seem so stuck on just those 2 departments! Don't pick on just them and leave the rest alone, that's just shows you seem to have an issue with the departments and not a true concern for the issues at hand.

You obviously haven't talked to many. I haven't heard of one who isn't pizzed about the cuts that were put into place last week with our officers:

1. No more clothing allowance.
2. No more dry cleaning to fix damages to their uniforms. That now comes out of the officers pocket.
3. No more maintenance on the cars outside of oil changes. If you have any knowledge of what those cars go through, you'd realize how stupid of a move that was.
4. If I car breaks down, it will not be replaced, or fixed.
5. There will be no new vehicles this year.
6. There was no cost of living increase this year. I don't recall there ever not being one.
7. The hiring freeze is still in effect, and has been for quite some time.
8. If someone is fired, or quits or hell, is killed, they will not be replaced.

They have, as of last week, made major cuts to the pd. it's now time to make cuts elsewhere.

Who are you to tell me I who I have and have not talked to about this? Did I say I have talked to all of them? No I did not. What I said was the ones I have talked to have not complained. In my opinion some of this mess they have the right to be upset about. They are not the ones that made the mistakes that caused the problem. Hiring freeze? They have the same number on staff at OFD as they have they have had for years! Who says they need to hire or want to hire more, so how does that affect them? The numbers at OPD have been about the same for years as well. So hiring freeze? As far as the car maintenance goes, why can't that be done at the city shop where city employees are already being paid? That has never made sense to me and goes back to the fact that the ones to blame in this mess aren't the ones paying the price! That is a decision that should have already been made. Yet no one is talking about the city and the waste of funds that goes on there. Are some of them pissed, I'm sure they are, but again I say rightly so. This whole thing is one crazy mess that anyone with half a brain has seen coming, yet the ones most affected are not the ones that caused it. I mean he didn't get the nickname "tricky Dicky" for no reason. The worst part is that I won't be surprised when the Feds do show up and it really does go all to hell in one big hand-basket! Even then though I doubt the blame gets placed correctly, they are already blaming the one person that quit because he refused to hide it all anymore. Knew he would be blamed as soon as I heard he quit, and I don't know the man other than by name.

I think you might have misunderstood what I was trying to get across. Any time you work a public job in the fire, police, parks, water, or street. You put your job at the mercy of political chatter. Some which will be for and some against, with statements of truths, half-truths, and flat out lies. It goes with the territory of being a public servent. It just politics. Where would we be without these services? All are vital to a community. The question always becomes, how many employees is needed?

I have to agree with you. They seem to be pointing fingers at underlings & those who are not there anymore. This crap has been going on for years. Do any of you truly believe that the missing 1.7m is the result of undercharging local industry for such a extended period of time without anyone being aware of it? Well the I have talked to some ofd guys and I know there are many ideals floating around they are waiting on word from. But you can't cut much cause here is the deal. Uniform allowance has been cut year after year so basically they buy there own. Drying cleaning for there uniforms have been gone for years now. Most of there equipment comes for grants or money they raised from the golf tournament year after year. These guys have said they would take a pay cut to save three of there own from losing jobs. Are they happy about it no not all. But these guys need there jobs they have families. So see these guys are taking cuts to there pay so y'all need to stop riding them. They drive there personal trucks to fires and wrecks out of town. So what else can you cut?

Exactly. The guys at the firehouse don't handle the money, they just work with what they are given. Give them less to work with?

When work is done to the fire stations guess who does the work? The firefighters do it. Very seldom is any work done to the stations by anyone other than the firefighters. Stop by the firestation sometime and look around, ask who did the floors, who painted the station, ask who remodeled the classroom facilities, ask who built the hose racks and the other equipment around the station. All this at no extra cost to the taxpayers, all this done by the guys who just sit around all day and do nothing except draw a check...

Would you like to take a guess at who does most of the work on the firetrucks? The firefighters do it. The only time work on the trucks is taken outside the department is MAJOR engine, transmission or pump overhauls. 95% is done in house, at no extra cost to the taxpayers, all done by the guys who just sit around all day and and do nothing except draw a check.

These same guys also go out and raise $8,000 to $15,000 each year with golf tournaments, raffles and whatever else they can come up with to buy equipment. Thermal imaging cameras, hydraulic rescue tools, radios, stabilizing systems to use at auto accidents. All bought with money raised by the FD, at no cost to the taxpayers.$70,000-$85,000 in equipment that did not cost the taxpayers a cent. Provided by the guys that do nothing all day long but sit around all day and draw a check.

Take a pay cut if they have to? Yeah, they will. Get by with 3 fewer full time firefighters?, Yeah, if that's what it comes down to. They will do what they have always done, they will keep doing their job and a little more each and every day. That's what they do, no matter that everyone thinks that the job is gravy, and that everyone who works there makes at least $40,000 a year, they will do the job because it has to be done, and because most people just don't have what it takes to do the job.

Again, thanks guys for the job that you do. You don't hear it often enough, but no matter what you may read here there are still people who appreciate what you do every day.

Has the Mayor said that he would take a pay cut?
How about department heads? Why are they not being asked to cut their own salary to make up a budget shortfall? 7% or 8% of the Mayor or Police Chiefs salary is a lot more than the same percentage of the rookie cop or the guy that drives the garbage truck.
Would Kennemore Insurance cut their profit margin and return a portion of the Insurance premiums to the city?

City employees do not know how to read a balance sheet let alone how to generate one correctly. Sounds like they are taking the dumbass defense. Wake up everyone. Osceola is shrinking. I get sick at my stomach at the mess that has been created by our civic leaders. Osceola is in ruins and yet they conduct business in a palace. Everyone involved in the financial mess should be fired or better yet prosecuted if wrongdoing is uncovered. I bet Sherry Delancey knows a lot more than what was printed in the Rag. That dead wood has worked for the city so long it is not even funny.

How does what type vehicle that they drive show in any way what type worker they are? What do you drive? I think the whole city department heads need to park their vehicles every afternoon and depend on their personal vehicle more.Firefighters drive their own vehicles to every fire unless they are on duty and drive a firetruck.I see city vehicles all around town all hours of the day and night.I see city vehicles going to schools and heading out of town with children in them.I see them parked in front of friends house at night with the guys standing around having a beer with their buddies. This should be an issue, drinking and driving a city vehicle. Its so funny to see the water crew when they find a leak somewhere!!!You see 1 guy digging a hole and 6 standing around watching and laughing.Lets look at the effectiveness of this department. Same with the garbage crew 2 or 3 guys riding around town passing up garbage on the side of the road.I have passed down streets every day for 2 weeks and the same trash be lying on the side of the road.I have had trash on my street for as long as 10 days before they finally picked it up and I wached the truck go by without stopping. In a perfect world the department heads would be out of those trucks getting their hands dirty and if those guys standing around were not needed send them to another job or send them home without pay. Then the light crew, how many times have you passed their compound on Semmes St. and the whole crew sitting around talking or playing on their phones. If we had a city crew that demanded excellence then they would be working to make budget cuts also and not just the OPD or OFD.How about the uniforms that the other crews wear?Have they had to cut their allowances? I have always washed my clothes and paid for repairs never have I expected my employer to take care of my laundry.Com e on people try using some common sense for once.
