What does everyone in this town think of the major increase in the rent on most of the rental properties in town. It is really ashame that there have been honest paying renters in these houses and they are told there rent is going to go up 40 to 50% or they can get another place to live. The reason for this is that the power plant comes into town and all of the sudden rent on houses skyrockets, I don't see this being any different than when a catastrophe happens and gas station owners raise gas prices. I don't see a thing wrong with trying to make money, but taking advantage of people while you make the money is an entire different thing. I am glad i am not GREEDY like these landlords are being right now. I will say this a everyone that reads this can take it for what it is worth, everyone in this town better enjoy the good for about 4 more years, because when these workers leave this is going to be one sad place to be. All of the landlords that forced their tenants out to bring in workers from the power plant to pay higher than premium prices will be begging the good tenants back, and maybe when they start begging they old tenants will say kiss my a**, that is what you get for taking advantage of someone.

your not talking about harshman's cause they hadn't had a rent increase in over three years. yes they ask for another $10 to $50 more on house rent, its because labor and gas and materials have gone up in the last three years.

OK first of all you already know the bad (or lazy) people changes things for the good (or hard working). If we are going to change Osceola and the people living here, we need to weed out people that don't want to work and pay rent. 80% of Osceola live off the government. Well who pays for it you do. So in my opinion and strickly thats what this is....If Osceola raises rental prices then the people that don't want to work will have to move because HUD will only pay so much a month you know. So for the people that sitting at home on your lazy butts find another town to do it in. 2008 will be a better year for Osceola, hang in their for the hard working people that are thinking about leaving.

amen, we got older people who have worked all their lives who can't move or get any help and got men and women in their early 20's who sit at home on their butts (by the grace of the older people who work and pay taxes so these others can sit on their butts) who are more than able to get a job.

Harshamns are full of themselves. The majority of their houses are shit! They don't want to fix them up in any way! Oh and Rent is usually way way way too high for the most part of their shity property. Never again will I rent from them! Harshmans are nothing dick heads!! Someone needs to buy out all of his rental property, someone who will take care of these homes and not let them go to shit! I VOTE TO VOTE OUT HARSHMANS!!!!!

I'm not sure if you reside in Osceola, but if you do my comment was to you also. By the way you are talking and spelling you probably don't work either. So if you don't want to rent from Harshman I'm sure they can find a good hard working renter to move in. The Harshmans are the finest people in town. I didn't write this comment to judge you, we have to work together to make this world a better place to live.

yep.. sad but, true it's called the american way. if you go to any resort at peak season you will pay more for rooms, food, ect. the property owners do it, take advantage of us hard working folks.. and sometimes we are treated like low-lifes simply because we are RENTERS! they (the owners) always have a good excuse for the price hike. insurance rates are higher, taxes have increased, the last renters left owing back rent, oh.... yada, yada..(i see your mouth moving, but cant hear a damn thing) hang in there, when it's over they the GREEDY will pay the piper.

get ur own house rent it out and see exactly how much money you make, none, you go in the hole, i just rented mine out, my insurance went up, they trashed the carpet, holes in the walls, and i still have to make the mortage payments..... when you rent out u have more trouble than money that is for sure. all that combined wasn't the rent i got. i was losing $100 a month.

im talking about a little house with 2 tiny bedrooms and one bath. its a little house behind another house. the rent there used to be 250 a month, now it is 500 a month. the house is not worth that much at all-u would agree with me if u saw the house i was talking about.

I hate to butt in but I'm still looking for my family and I remember my daddy used to say yada, yada a lot or it could have been my momma. There was a lot of talk about dirt somewhere but I can't find it now. Is there a time limit to these forums?

First of all, yes rent does increase if the place is worth living...but if I were considering moving to Osceola, there is no way in h*ll I'd pay $500 a month anywhere...Opinion, you have to consider, also, the types of jobs that are available in Osceola. Many people may live on HUD, but there are also hard working people who can barely afford the rent they had before, much less after the increase. More money doesn't necessarily make you a good person. Not all the broke people are lazy!

I think that i must not have made my point clear, I don't rent i own my home just to clear that up. I guess no one has tried to rent a house in town lately, It has gone up drastically since the power plant started bringing people in. I just hate to see good tenants that always pay on time and each month shouldn't be pushed out for people that are hear for a short time and that will pay higher rent. If anyone disagrees with this they have rocks in their head. Loyalty just doesn't mean a thing anymore and it is just a shame, when and if the topix site is still going in 4 years i can assure you that you will all have alot to talk about along with real estate signs in every third yard, it will be a tramatic time for this community. This comment is not towards you bob, i think that you and i have a little sense about this matter.

i agree my husband and i are hard working citizens that are on no goverment asistance and we have a very hard time with making ends meet and its not only rent thats high what about the entergy bill heck mine has been 400 a month and i live in a 2 bedroom place thats crazy!!!something should be done yes i agree that some people are lazy and live off the government but there are still some honest young people trying to have a decent life and no one here seems to care espevially no offense to anyone but the rich people in town make it worse!!just because they were born into money doesn't mean every one else was

I agree Livin! Not only that, but you can't just force the "bums" out of Osceola. They will find other ways to pay their rent and put food on their table. They will steal stuff or rob people...If they aren't worth anything, it won't kill their "morals" to steal so that they can afford what they want. It's already hard enough to sell a house in Osceola...
A better Osceola

i am buying myself, but i see others in this town getting the wrong idea, i have raised children here and i still think it can be a better town, its what we make it, not newcommers or bums, its own town to make what we will out of it.
i know that not all people who rent out houses in this town came from money......i know one business that came from off bowen and next to levee. they do more for the school and this town than anyone will ever know. they just dont' put it in the paper like others. they really are good people (eh & sh) they don't have to brag about what they do. they work everyday and have all their lives it wasn't given to them.
