Both the Missouri Senate and the House approved House Bill 657 which requires dock owners to post signs bearing their 911 addresses on those docks. The law, which covers all lakes in the state with more than 950 miles of shoreline, requires dock owners to post the address in block-style letters and numbers no smaller than 3 inches on the lake side of the dock in a place that is visible from the main channel or the cove. The address must also be placed against a background of contrasting color.
The signs must be posted by January 1, 2010
Failure to comply will ultimately be considered an infraction and will be subject to a ticket and a fine of not less than $25 and not more than $100.
The Missouri Water Patrol mentioned the signs will allow officers to provide better service and to more quickly summon help in an emergency. Water Patrol Officers have no way of knowing what docks are on what roads. However, once dock addresses are posted, when someone is injured, it will make it much easier for them.
