Same story every year--another reason why our rates keep SOARING. Service still sucks.

I don't know if the helicopter work has helped, but we used to loose power sometimes and we have not lost it in the last few years. I am have faith that the folks who run Adams Electric aren't using the helicopter for the fun of it.

I thought Adams Electric had better prices than Met-Ed & they gave back money to their customers due to being a cooperative.
Any truth to that?

It is difficult to answer, because I don't know what Met-Ed charges. We have received checks from Adams Electric in the past, but since I don't handle this end of things, I don't know their size or frequency. People have commented that we are lucky to have Adams Electric, though.

As an Adams Electric customer for 20+ years myself, and my parents for over 50 years, this is absolutely true.

I can attest to this as well. We had Adams Electric when I was growing up and we used to joke that the electric went out when a bird sat on a wire. In the last 20 years, living in my own home, I can only remember the electricity going out 2 or 3 times.

As a Met-Ed customer with friends and family who are Adams Electric customers I can tell you that this is 100% true.

Soaring is an exaggeration. Yes, the rates have gone up slightly over the past few years, but they still have some of the lowest rates in the state and entire northeast region. As far as service, Adams Electric also has some of the lowest outage times of an electric utility in PA and has been on the low end for a number of years. It is practices such as aerial line patrol that have helped improve the service. If anyone has issues with service, I know they are responsive and can be reached at 1-888-232-6732.

Isn't there a company in Gettysburg that specializes in aerial patrol? Wouldn't it be cheaper to let them do it?

I can't even believe they are even doing it! Don't ya think it's a bit dangerous for all concerned? Have the crew go out and if a wire needs fixing, hands on and get it done. So much for your clean laundry on the washline during the summer months.

One possible downside to the helicopter activity, is that ordinary life insurance policies often have no value if someone is killed while using small aircraft of any sort.
