Look at the # of motorcycles out on the road now compared to "2008". Common sense will tell you it's going to continue to increase. Higher gas prices are pushing for a lot of the sales. I would like to see the stat.'s of how many of these are due to the carelessness of other motorists. Cars pulling out, people on cell phones while driving, etc.
I was almost run off the road on two seperate occasions in "2008" by motorists not paying attention. Just last night someone almost pulled out in front of me. As a motorcyclist I have to be alert more than ever for the next stupid move that someone makes.

Only idiots ride motorcycles anymore. The smart people have finally learned the law of averages will mean sooner or later you will be injured or killed on a "donorcycle".

Well than I guess I'm an idiot, because I will keep riding. If one of you 4 wheelers hit and kill me than so be it. I died doing what I love. You will die crapping in your pants in a nursing home. My choice so live with it. RIP to all those who have recently died. Live free ride hard!!!!!

They're not living free, they're dead.
If they ride a little more sensible, they would be alive.

I love my family and they love me. We all know the dangers in riding a motorcycle, driving a car, flying or just walking across the streer.
If people only ever did things that were safe we all would be walking.
By your account people that ride motorcycles are selfish. What about those of us that serve our country and are willing to go to war to defend it are we selfish? We coould be killed in some battle doing what we said we would do.
I do both so I must be one selfish Basterd by your reasoning. I have been riding a motorcycle for 24 years and serving our country for 14 years in the Air Force.
Semper FI Mike and GOD BLESS your Family.
Bill you selfish bastard you. I have to agree with you. i want to thank you for ur serivce to our country so that others can complain and moan. But I bet if thier ass was on the line the would run and hide. I also ride. Hope to meet you on the road someday

Odds are, the driver of the SUV had a cell phone mushrooming out their ear. I see that often enough to decide on replacing my pipsqueak factory horn with a 140db dual sounder.
I see you drifting into my right of way at the intersection, chatting with your friends on the phone and not paying attention. The moment I see the slightest bit of wheel rotation as I approach the intersection, and you didn't turn your head in my direction, high beams are on and a three second burst comes from the horn.
I MAKE SURE you know I'm there if I don't see you looking toward me at least once. If I can't see your face straight on, then I know you didn't see me.
Last week I seen a driver on the cell phone to ear and lighting a cigarette at the same time holding up the people behind her. Oh I failed to mention it wasn't on a motorcycle it was a car.

Gee that is original . Sure took a lot of thought. Gee and I bet your life is pretty boring because you only step out of your box when real life is not involved. Sure glad I am not you because i love the ride and I love life and everyone and thing around me. And I have a perfect open veiw from my bike.

I agree. For the most part we bikers are among the safest drivers. There are those foolish riders who choose to endanger others by only thinking of themselves. Last night I encountered one on a crocth rocket while in my car on the 462 Columbia Bridge. Speed Limit 40mph. I was doing 45mph. This guy comes up behind me passes in a no passing zone rides up to a truck ahead of me and again passes as fast as he can up the middle on the yellow line in a no passing zone almost causing an accident from the car coming in the opposite direction. He was causing pcars and trucks to moved to the side as he sped past. That guy is no doubtibly going to find himself in an accident while most likely involving another person who will be the innocent victim. Wrong. It shouldn't be but these things happen and not all bikers are like this. At least he was protecting his head. He had his helmet on.

I have been riding for a long time. If you fear the machine do yourself a favor and sell it. I see more foolish motorcycle riders (mainly sport bikes)than people driving cars. The poster writing about the crotch rocket is speaking of something that happens all the time. How about pulling the front wheel up in highway traffic, during the bust part of the day. Most people get the fever, buy the bike, have little to no training or experience and think all of the sudden they are Robbie Kenevil (SP?). This is a very unfortunate event. These people will never get a chance to speak their side. Motorcycle are lower in the food chain and the last I checked even a small compact car is bigger, heavier, and bound to do more damage to the bike and rider than the other way around. Here's one on the riders. When riding in formation how many of you squeeze through the lights to keep with the crowd? Exactly....you know the truth....quit throwing judgement in any direction. The case can be made for either side.

Learn to be safe.....riding around one armed so you can look like easy rider is not safe....showing your buddies that you can ride with no hands is not safe, riding with crappy posture so you can have the look....unsafe. On most modern bikes they install turning signals....try using them and give the folks behind you some extra warning.

We have had enough motorcycle death lately....ride safe and ride smart.

Great advice. I hope many read it and remember it and use it. My spouse and I ride using your information and always have. My husband took a safety course different times during his many years riding. 43 to be exact. It doesn't hurt to get a refresher as we have found with each new era drivers change traffic patterns change vehicle power and shapes and sizes of models change, etc. Taking that course saved our lives many years ago. if he hadn't known how to lay down his bike when someone decided to make a left turn in front of us when we had the right away bottom line we wouldn't be here with all our parts intact. One big change is people driving up along side you where there is no designated lane just so they can make a turn or get one car ahead. Like a stop sign for instance a driver will pull up on the left or right side and not wait their turn in line for the stop. Years ago no one would have even thought of this because they would have been considered for a ticket as a traffic infraction. Or the drivers who ride the center turn lane after coming across the road from the otherside so they can enter the right lane in their timely manner. We've even see people drive up over a cement medial strip to take a short cut to the other side and doing it in heavy traffic. Or someone like on Mt. Zion and Concord doing a Uturn around your car while you are sitting at the light. Motorcycles and cars alike at times pass another driver on the right or on the left while the other driver is still in motion head the same direction. Today many people have no regards for his fellow human being's life.
