Either way, Gettysburg looks bad. Personally, I am sure this is a cover up by Gettysburg authorities, the 150th is coming up and they don't want tourists to be scared off.

But, if it was a newspaper, then dear Lord, these people from Gettysburg are stoopid.

Did you ever find out the truth? Was it a newspaper or cover up?

Here is my question, if Gettysburg is such a safe place then why would someone mistake a paper being thrown as a gun shot?

Why would they assume it was gun fire if there was no issue with gunfire before?

During hunting season I expect to hear gunfire, but I don't automatically assume the gun fire is associated with a crime because its hunting season.

Pink Eye, I believe you answered your own question. If gunfire was so common in Gettysburg how could someone mistake a thrown newspaper for a gunshot.

Back in the 60s during a trip to southeast Asia, there were some people around who didnít like me or my friends in their country and we were shot at every day. I remember the sound of gunfire, and would never confuse it with a thrown newspaper. I was once a very avid hunter, so I know the difference between gunfire and a thrown newspaper.

I would say that someone who has no experience with the sound of gunfire would be the kind of person who would make that mistake.

If gunfire were so very common this college student would know the difference.

If you ask Mark Nesbitt he'd probably say that it was a Confederate ghost who fired that shot then he'd go home and write a book about it.
