SO let me get this straight, OG got rid of a coach who bullied, spit on, and harassed students four years ago because they were traveling in a "new" direction. However they did away with the coach that had "new" directions and have hired another bully???? DOes Oak Grove truly think that as parents we have forgotten all the things that were done to our kids for years simply because we had a respectable man coaching our kids for the last four? I hope that as parents we prevent the bullying and abuse from happening. If that means that we sit in the stands to watch our children at practice I hope we all do it. Life is meant to be enjoyed and no matter what, football is and always will be a game. Yes kids can learn about respect and what it means to be dependable and be a team, but that can and should be taught with respect and integrity. Lets make sure that as parents we do not allow this bullying to continue in our town. I hope that we keep our eyes open and the school board aware that the parents and students are who they represent and protect.
If Oak Grove don't like bully coaches then they had better be prepared for the one they just hired! He is one big bully. If they think hiring him is going to give them a winning team, they are apt to be surprised. It was the talent on our team that won the games. Maybe good coaching helped, but the talent had to be there to execute the game. Good luck Oak Grove and Thank God you took him out of Orrick!!!

Boy how did I know that good old make the kids run laps with a pink purse in order to degrade them School Board member would want to hire a football coach like this. He pushed for a bully, in your face, degrade the kids kind of coach and bamboozled the other totally UNINFORMED school board members to get him hired before anyone found out about his method of coaching. GEE...it was exactly as told to me by other school board members that knew that was the ultimate plan. Glad my son has a couple of years before playing highschool ball so maybe Richards will be run out of town on a rail. We have A LOT of VERY talented boys on the way to the highschool level. I hope the newly elected school board members get a hand on this coach before he comes here and ruins it!

OAK GROVE PARENTS- You are getting a great football coach and an extraordinary guy. Nevermind the few people on this thread that pretend to know Mr. Richard. Unfortunately for these few, they were wrapped up in drugs, alcohol and mis-guided parental support which will never be "their" fault. Oak Grove will do just fine with their new hire. Yes, there were talented kids, but those student-athletes would not have reached the pinnacle of high school class 1 football without Coach Richard, Coach O'Dell and Coach Comstock. It is too bad that the All-State players that won 2 titles could not go on to college and be successful. For some it wasn't in the cards, for others it was beer and weed.

FOR THE HATERS: You can point your finger (in frustration of what your life has become) at Coach Richard but you have three pointing back at you! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY of YOUR STUPID ACTIONS!

Good luck to Orrick School-Community and good luck to Pat Richard.

Somebody is clueless....hmmm, did you have someone who played for him???? Maybe you should talk to your son, or just maybe you aren't close enough to him that he would tell you what really goes on! Or maybe this post is from Pat- trying to smooth over the way he coaches. Let me tell you; people ask why this is just now coming out, well the parents don't have to worry about it being taking out on their kid(s) now that he is GONE, that is why people can finally speak their minds! Pretty sad when a coach punishes kidsthat go on a family vacation or a kid being punished because being to sick to practice- give me a break it's ORRICK people- NOT THE NFL! GLAD HE IS GONE!!!!

His big supporter, got him hired, wanted a bully coach school board member got bounced out on his ear so now that he has no one to cover up for him he might want to consider changing his coaching methods or his time here will be short!

He is leaving people, let him go in peace!!! We learned a lesson, we can't sell out our values for state championships. I know there is a lot of pride in our 3 state championships but i can tell you most of my teamates are out of school now and most aren't even working its actually pretty sad. Then you have the 75 guys who growing up is all i heard about. I don't see a lot of those guys doing to well now a days either. We need to lose the football town mentality and become grow a school work mentality. I want my sons and daughters to be lawyers and doctors not a never was.

Pat Richards is a good man and a good coach! Why are you people trying to ruin this man's life? Oak Grove people do not listen to this selfish bunch of jealous people. I know who some of you are. Your the same ones who get on here and spout your venom about everyone. If you can't find something true, you'll make it up. You'll tell a lie, just to get a rise out of people. Where do you get off hurting people who have never done a thing to you. These kids respect and like this coach. There were times when I thought he was too hard and was going to say something and my son told me not to. That he was a good man and a good coach and he respected him. This coach was extremely hard on my boy. But that was because he knew his potential. The only ones that do not like him are the ones that couldn't cut it. Like the lazy ones, the druggies and the partyers. This coach does not tolerate anyone using drugs and or drinking. Yes he got rid of those that do this. He gave them chance after chance. And he was all for drug testing. The parents of these kids are the ones that are bashing him. If they can't take what this man does, then how are they going to make it in the real world? They keep saying no one has ever gone on to play for a college from here, well guess what, they are wrong. There have been 3 that I know of. There is also another one this year that has been recruited for and given a scholarship to a college nearby. That would be my boy. Please don't listen to the hate about this man. AT least do not judge him on the ignorance of others. Just give him a chance to redeem himself. I do guarantee you, that your kids will have a love-hate relationship with this man. Look back in your past. Who ever liked their coach? They have to demand you give your best. They aren't there to beg and plead with you to do your best. I know your a good community. My older son played baseball there years ago and we met some very nice people from there. Good luck to you all. God bless.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Marilyn, but no, he did not get rid of the ones who drank and partied. They still drank and partied AND played football. Football players have been drinking and partying for years and years, and will continue to do so.

Whether he is a good coach or not, I have no idea. All my kids graduated many years ago. But why do so many people talk about how he demeaned, put down, harassed, abused, belittled if he didnt really do all those things? I really don't think it's just the ones who 'couldnt cut it'.

I too greatly dis-agree with you Marilyn. Please stop thinking he is such a saint. Do not think for a minute he got rid of the kids that did drugs. If you think there were no drugs used by some of the players, you are seriously living blinded. My kid says otherwise. One of the three you say went on to play college football has been kicked out of college for drugs and drinking. This came out of his own dad's mouth. Too bad, but football does not make anyone immune to drugs or the use of them. You can uphold this coach as much as you want to, but I don't at all agree with your assesment. I destest you saying we are out to ruin him. He did that on his own. And why would anyone be jealous of him? Most school districts would not have tolerated him like Orrick did. Now that he is leaving, more people are beginning to open up and speak out about his bully behavior. Funny how quiet they were before because they feared reprisals against their boys if they spoke out against him. He should have redeemed himself while he was here but chose not to.I for one am glad he is gone and I will anxiously watch Oak Grove to see how long he last there.

My brother was on the football team his whole time at OHS. He also went to parties and drank his whole time at OHS. He was never kicked off the team or not allowed to play in one single game. My brother is stat books, he was an outstanding athlete...look him up...Andy Sevart. It was all about winning nothing else. They were a good team and I enjoyed watching him play, but just ask him now what he thinks about OHS football...NONE of it matters in the real world, nor did it prepare him for life after HS. My other brother tried to play on the OHS football team and was constantly put down and made to feel that he just wasn't good enough and he would never be as good as his brother. After hearing and dealing with all of that, after a while he decided that it was not worth it, and decided not to play anymore. I suppose the kids liked playing or maybe they just liked finally winning and having the community treat them like Gods, either way I think it is a good choice for Pat to move on...change is always good for anyone.

You mean your GRANDSON!! The one you are calling your son, isn't true and you know it. And you of all people talking about druggies, that would be your daughter...and you KNOW it! Start telling the truth about your family. Nothin but white trash drug heads and you enable it, by telling your lies. Again that is not YOUR son.
