I would hope the teachers could see fit to give at least 1 furlough day! The rest of the world is doing this. This will not affect their retirement in any significance. How could the union want cuts to students over cuts to their salaries? Public education is about students NOT providing jobs or salaries above and beyond everyone else in the community.

I do think it is time to cut the school year by a day or two but no more.

We should look at more gate classes instead of less because I think it would provide more quality to a child's education than less. In fact we should try and teach it to more boys that are having trouble learning as I really believe it will motivate and captivate them into learning.

Please don't demonize the teachers, most of them are awesome. Everyone just wants to target people now as if they are the root of all of our problems. The parents have a huge role in their childs success even more than the teacher will ever have on your child. It is time we all step up to the plate.

We absolutely need more GATE and special programs for those children that are excelling. We spend our educational budgets on getting most of the students up to state standards and along the way we forget about those kids who are doing well. They are special needs kids too.. and need just as many resources as those with special eduacation.
Look into Special Ed

Why did the Oroville Elemen. School District take over offering Special Education for the region when BCOE was offering this? Now, OCESD is the Special Education regional clearinghouse for all special ed students who are in and outside our area. Chico, Paradise, Palermo, Gridley-- even Special ed students from Loma Rica are taken in by our school district. We are losing money being the regional provider for special ed! Give it back to BCOE and let's get the district on track!!
