I've never done this before. I'm a little internet illiterate. We're thinking of making a move to the Curlew area and I'm a mother of three young children. I've never been to northeastern Washington and I don't a thing about it. Are there dentists/doctors nearby or is a long drive. What is the cost of living like up in Curlew and how big are the schools? Are there grocery stores within a short distance or will we need to plan on once a month major trips to nearby cities. I'm excited for the possible change but completely clueless as to what to expect. Are there any housewives on line who can understand my concerns and maybe tell me a little about life in Curlew?

Closest dentist is in Republic and so is the hospital. There is a clinic in Curlew. Curlew's school is small, but good. There's a little store in the center of Curlew, but it's not open every day of the week. They sell gas there too. If you want a Walmart or Safeway, the nearest one is about 60 miles away in Colville and 115 miles to Spokane.

I'm just curious, but why Curlew? I live in Republic (roughly 20 miles away I think) and we're a bigger town.

Good luck and NE Washington is a great place!

Thank you for responding. My husband would be transfering to the border for work so we figured that staying closer to Curlew would cut down on commute time, especially in the winter months. We might relocate to Malo-I was actually looking at Republic as a possibility too. It sounds exciting. We'ld be buying our first house and my hubbie would finally get back to the North West. We hope we get the job but we'll have to wait and see. Right now we are in California. We've been here almost three years and I am looking forward to moving. Thank you for the reassurance about the schools. I grew up overseas and attended really small schools and loved it. My oldest is in first grade this year and I've discovered that if there's anything I can worry about I will. NE Washington sounds wonderful and hopefully this time next year I'll know first hand. Thanks again!

My son is in first grade this yr too.:) I think they have about 15 students per class for a total of 30 or kids for that grade. He absolutely loves his class and teacher. Republic's school site is http://www.republic.wednet.edu/ . Not sure if Curlew has a website or not. We know several of the Border Patrol guys, if that's what you are moving up here for. They are good group of guys and friendly. Most that I know live right here in Republic.
