Full story: Chico Enterprise-Record

Less than a month after Bidwell Marina's new owners took the helm, some boat owners are angry again and primed to fight, this time over mooring fees.

I love this... " The rates didn't change"

yeah 33.9% charge for monthly payments is crap.

It doesn't matter since in a few years LA will complain the water is dirty so they will ban boats on the lake

Wouldn't it be nice to have $10,000 or $12,000 "extra" every year beyond what you need for living expenses, to use for fun things like boats, etc?

So if the boat owners don't want to pay the 33.9% charge, pay your yearly fees upfront. This isn't any different than any of the boat owners who happen to be business people propose for their customers. The boat mooring fees and any attached fees, are most likely write offs for the worst of these cry babies. How typical!

I would love to have an extra $1000 a month to throw in the lake. I can barely afford to put gas in my car to get to work. Would you like cheese with your whine?

Holy Cow!$12,000 a year just to float your boat? Hoooooo Boy. I would have to LIVE on it in order to be able to afford that. If you can afford to pay that much just for a space to put your boat, you don't need to be put out about anything.

I'm reading alot of sour grape comments. Come on people, this isn't about whether or not others have disposable income, is it? That's the Socialist mantra...if you have and I don't then you should give it to me. Be honest. What would you do if you were in a position to have a significant amount of disposable income? Would anyone have the right to bill you more "just because you have it?" NO. I have barely enough to pay rent and buy groceries, but I refuse to get on the band wagon of hating and resenting folks that are in better financial shape. Let's grow up.

I don't hate or resent the people who have the money to put out for a boat space rental. I am shocked at the amount they would PAY for it. This money could feed a lot of homeless people, is what I am thinking.

For the life of me I can't figure out why people would want to sail on that toilet anyway.

Hmmmm, Forever Resorts is charging $1,015 for a marina slip? Hardly sounds fair when you consider that the same company charges $124.00 each month for any sized boat to occupy one of their slips on Whiskeytown Lake.

What's wrong with this picture?

Boat Owners Assoc. is a crock. Over at Lime Saddle, it is in your contract that you can't have any kind of an assoc. Everytime something goes wrong at Bidwell, these rich snobs cry. At Lime Saddle the saying used to be, "you don't like the rules, take your boat out, we have a three page waiting list". This boat of Mr. Johnson's is a huge barge, that you hope is not taking out your boat everytime there is a storm. You guys need to let the new managers get things straightened out before you start bitching, they are doing a great job over at Lime Saddle.

What kind of stupid blind ignorance do you people reason with? For G*d sake just quit hating those that work and have more.... you may work and get less but so what? quit hateing the haves because you happen to choose to spend your $$$ unwisly. The haves pay so much more taxes that you can even imagine... oh no... you don't think they pay enough because they know how to invest and keep some $$$. Give it a rest... Losers!!! always crying "give me" "give me" give give give me....

By the way I raised my babies on Welfare, went to school and no longer have the NEED!!! Kids bring in over 6 figure saleries and they pay the taxes.... I know both ends, and whiners are losers....

Jerry Johnson started the boat owners group (LOBO) to force the marina owners to make changes. Why should he be surprised that one of the changes is higher rates? His group only represents a small percentage of owners but all owners will pay higher costs! His boat (Mayberry H2O) is one of the 100'+ "floating homes". It is too big for the marinas mooring system. Boats that size are not allowed on most California lakes and should not be on Lake Oroville! We will all pay more so the marina can be upgraded to proprly handle boats like his. The last mailing from the marina included a flyer offering insurance from a company endorsed by Jerry Johnson! The flyer had his name on it! Is he getting a sweetheart deal on his insurance? All boat owners on the lake will pay more because of the actions of this selfish idiot! The new owners of the marina now hold a monopoly on Lake Oroville. The new contract requires millions of dollars of upgrades. Where do you think that money is going to come from?

Isn't this better than the marina closing down and everyone having to pull their boats and park them on land?? Possibly another 200 a month is what the marina needs to operate adequately. I think people should be thankful we have a lake to be on while it lasts.

Hay I think like you do, Last night I was thinking of changing my handle to "Always Wrong". I figure I would attract less criticism with it.

The article states they are not letting the owners pay a yearly fee right now, So everyone is forced to pay monthly, which is the root of their complaint.
