the article obout the oroville in being substandard, the housing situation in Oroville is bad. Most people would rather live in those conditions than on the street which is a real option in most cases. The rent in Oroville is so high Its hard to live anymore.rent takes up most of a low income persons income or all of it.Its worse every year, people have to live together or go without food and utilities just to pay rent.maybe we could spend more money on affordable places to live. Also let some factories come to our area! people really do want to work, but they need to make enough to live on!I know what its like to work 40 hours a week and not even have enough money for food or gas. There has to be some solution.

Hear, hear! Quality of life is an integral part of living in our society, something the owner of the Oroville Inn seems to be ambivalent about. While I understand the need for "low-low" income residents, it should not come in the form of a rat-infested (okay, pigeon infested), tyranical mess that the Inn poses! The poor and needy deserves to live with the proper means to live safely and without unsanitary conditions. It appears that Mr. Benefield has complete disregard for the tenants at the Oroville Inn.

If he is so confident that his Inn is of sound nature....I challenge you, Mr. Benefield, to reside within your own Inn, just as your tenants do even if just for a few months. Then let's see what tune you're whistling to.

PS: Kick your attorney to the curb already...didn't your mother teach you that you are known for the company that you keep? What a pootah!

Please don't move the people away... we'll all starve! We love crawling all over the people at night eating the food they leave on their faces! And their rolls of fat are so comfy!

Mr Benefield needs to buy a clean building and relocate all those poor people. The oroville Inn needs to be condemned as uninhabitable and purchased by someone who can restore it. It IS a disaster waiting to happen--perhaps the present owner will stop taking all this so personally if the place floods or catches fire will all those poor disabled people inside! What about the nightmare people who don't belong there? There are scary people walking those halls...

The city wants the property, that much is obvious. Half the council absent or not voting suggests guilty consciences.
Sure, the building is a tomb waiting to collapse, but let the agenda be known.

Factories??? You think more factories will solve Oroville's woes?? The people living in the Oroville Inn have never been productive, good choice making citizens. They have drained resources all their lives.. that's why living at the Inn is all they can afford... it is the law of reaping and sowing. Why should the owner of the Inn buy another place for them to live? Even if he does "owe" them (the poor victims) a decent place to live, it would become a slum anyhow, because they are too "disabled" to properly clean and maintain anything...so I guess he would also have to provide maid service, housecleaning service, etc., also.(Oh wait, we already have that, it is called In Home Support Service, another tax payer funded welfare program for the alcoholics and drug addicts) Let them go live with relatives, condem the building, and hopefully someone can afford (or get a grant) to restore the Inn to its former glory.. I, as a taxpayer, am sick and tired of having to pay for people who have let their lifestyle choices get the best of them.. it is NOT my fault!! They should take responsibility for themselves..

two councilmembers abstained because of their business proximity to the building. Not sure why the mayor was gone, but who cares, all you need is 4 to pass a vote and hold a quorum. Its about time the city started to clean up these properties. Perhaps you could do something to help this town improve instead of conspiring and being a do-nothing.

what if they cant take responsibility for themselves? and, how do you know about the tenants of the oroville? sounds a tad bit presumptuous to assume what kind of people live there. I bet most are elderly, disabled, and/or have mental problems. Your right, the elderly, disabled, and mental problem people can very easily assimilate into society and get a job, because oroville has plenty of jobs available.

Drive by there at night sometime you feel good liberal. You have an extra bedroom I'm sure a few of them will move in with you. Hell spread your wealth to them and give them a better life. You would be suprised if you gave 90% of the people living there a 20 dollar bill they would by 2 packs of smokes and a couple of 40's. Hell maybe a small amount of meth or marijuana.

I have worked as a health aide in theis building, and most of the people there are very old and sometimes bedridden. There are people there with physical/mental afflictions that make them helpless to advocate on their own behalfs. Yes--the owner has an obligation to provide a clean and accessible environment for them--he is taking government money after all and he looks very prosperous as a result.

You need to volunteer one day in that building and see that there are people there who worked themselves into old age and illness, and people who were born mentally ill. You have had the good fortune to not have to see this side of life. If you did, you would have more compassion. I think the 90 year old man who lives there, half dead in his bed, who will never get up again because he has had strokes, would love to hear you tell him, face to face, to get a job. I doubt if the delusional schizophrenic would get your drift.

I don't know about this NEW Oroville Inn business, but I drove past that by that place after bingo late one evening. There were many ruffians about, and I think that some of them may have even been smoking marijuana cigarettes. Please do something City Council to take back our town!!!

You have had quite a challenge---I haven't been there for 1-1/2 years(as a health care worker & nearby homeowner) and saw some very sad and scary things--I hope the owner goes around and MEETS all the tenants. I hope he spends some serious money to make sure they are taken care of. Owners/managers of buildings that house the extremely disabled and dependent need to be in constant touch with Social Services too and make sure they are advocates for their tenants, and not just landlords. And when the outside gets cleaned up(a coat of paint--the vagrants run off), the City won't get so many complaints. I have found a good relationship with Code Enforcement and the police goes a long way.

Conspiring? with whom?

As far as helping this town, my $$ are all spent here. Not in Chico. I also don't spend a dime at Wal-Mart. My money goes to locally-owned businesses whenever possible.

Not exactly a "do-nothing".

As most people know a good Manager cares. I care and I alone am a manager,a friend, an advocate, and much much more. Since day one when my wife and I arrived here in Oroville at The Oroville Inn I hit the floor running. I put in over 12-13 hours a day 6 days a week. Making a differnce everyday, in people's life's and to the building.I am still looking forward to meeting the public and those that care about others in these time's of need. My people are good people. Most are disabled, But that does'nt mean they dont care and it doent mean they are that much differnt than You or I. We all need a place we call home and Yes this place is home to about 35 families. They are warm, dry, and safe. Most of them dont care if the outside of the building is painted. We dont live with bugs, rats, or any other pest, and all of our sinks and tolits work just fine.. PLease dont step on the little people.. We (THE ALL NEW OROVILLE INN ) Care about our people and the public. We are do'ers and People will see that in time. But if you want to see it sooner than please come on down and let me walk with you and you can see for your self and talk to one or two of the folks that live here. Dont look at them as being bad because some might look different than you, they and we are all people... Thank you

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
