NO CHARGES FILED IN ATTEMPETED HOME-INVASION RAPE BY CHICO LAWYER'S SON CASE!

Woah. Chico's really rockin' now! At least it's Spring Break, so the 17,0000 Chico State students can't all go home and tell their parents that it's OK to break into chick's houses and rape them if you belong to a rich person's family.

The guy was caught running from the home of a screaming woman who was sexually assaulted by the Big Chico lawyer's son. But it's OK, so they let out on low bail (10% of 130,000 is $13,000) and DIDN'T FILE ANY CHARGES!

Good goin', Chico. Rape-friendly Chico.

I grew up with Hoptowit. He is a very kind, intelligent person. He's a family man, a business owner and a great person.

These allegations do not make any sense. Anyone who really knows him knows none of this makes sense. And the allegations are not logical if you read them.

And responding to Mr. Barrow from Los Molinos: his family is top notch. He has great parents. Jumping to any conclusion, especially in this situation, is deplorable. Everyone is innocent until proven otherwise. His parents are successful, but that does not make them bad. It makes they're hard working. He is going through the process just like anyone else.

I fully stand by Jeremy and his family. If he did do something illegal, then the legal process will prove so.

Mr. Barrow needs to stop watching Fox News. There is due process is the normal world.

Just wanted to tell Michael R. from previous post that it is a common legal defense strategy to postpone a case like this as long as possible as it weakens with time.

I understand that, what gets me so upset about this is that there is absolutely NO CASE NUMBER with the Butte County Superior Court, he WAS CHARGED & ARRESTED for a VIOLENT & SEXUAL CRIME yet he is out on the streets, he RAN FROM THE HOUSE AND POLICE so that shows lack of respect for the law, and I can go on.
He may be the greatest person you have ever met and would bend over backwords to help you, I DON'T CARE!!! He is accused of such a violent act that there is no way he should have been allowed bail until he was arraigned before a Judge.
Now do not get me wrong, I totally believe in "Innocent until Proven Guilty", but I also believe in "An Eye for An Eye".
Also, why use ANON unless you are trying to hide yourself from public scrutiny or you are involved with the family and friends trying to Victim Bash the young woman who was violently assaulted. I hope that she got a tape recorder or video camera and told her account of the entire evening and the events that happened while they are still fresh in her mind, because as you said, time weakens the memory of the event.

Also I must comend "Erik Juhl" for using his name. He may have an opposite stand on this matter then a lot of others but he used his name, as do I.

It is my name. I stand by my word. If he's guilty, then the law will take its course.
I'm just a firm believer in due process. The law applies to everyone.

He has his rights, just like you or I. I really find it hard to believe that there is not more to the story then what was reported at the time of the "incident" Let justice do its job. Jurys here will see the truth.

my own comments,
I do not know the people involved but how dare you as a journalist to mentioned the school his kids go to. I have never read when a person is arrested for: lets say drugs and kids are taken out of their home what school they attend.
To name the kids school of the person possibly accused of this horrible act is a very irresponsible.
choose your words kindly Mr. Welter.
Thank you

Ok Erik, check your denial. Thirty-six year old, kind, intelligent, and great "family" men aren't bolting out of sorority houses and running from cops at 2am. He was either rendezvousing with a girlfriend scorned, or he is a violent, sociopathic sexual predator. Either way, he was up to no good.

The father and lawyer of the accused got five separate child molestation charges dismissed last year for Rich Manley, the head of Campus Wave, a Christian org. So don't get your hopes up that justice will be served. Butte Co./Chico judges are usually there because they're good ole boys, not because they're smart, wise or just, and Hoptowit knows how to work them.
I'll bet Marion Jones does more time than this guy and, being a longtime Chicoan, I apologize to the victim her family for what's not going to be done.

To "cathleen greenlee, Chico, CA".
I do not remember ANY mention of a school that HIS children attended from any of the posts, I do know that "Notre Dame" school was mentioned as a place that Hoptowit did volunteer work at.

So what if his kids go to a named school or his wife works at a named location. So what if they shop at a certain supermarket? Who cares if I give my real name or not? What difference does it make? When you put yourself and family in a postion to be noticed, that is what happens. Why dont you give your last name Michael R? or is that your real name? How do we really know? Might as well list your phone number and address while you are at it.

I am not victim bashing. I think that anyone caught in an act that the police described should not be out on bail. I use "anon" because I am a single woman and I know Dennis Hoptowit and prefer to use anon. I don't like Dennis (the dad) but that is beside the point. People should be safe in the homes where they are staying. I was just saying that I think they will postpone this as long as possible because that is the best way to defend a case like this. Time changes everything . Memories fade and sometimes witnesses move or whatever. That is a legal strategy. I am not saying I like it. I have worked for lawyers and don't like the legal system. It is very unfair. I hope the victim writes everything down on paper so that she will remember it clearly. I appreciate this forum to state my opinion anonymously and hopefully won't have to face retaliation. I just don't think anyone caught by the police facing such serious charges should be out on bail for so long. I think anyone who cares should keep taking about this so that it won't just go away.

Mr. Hoptowit was listed as a parent volunteer. I agree with Cathleen Greenlee that it was extremely irresponsible for Mr. Welter to violate the privacy of Mr. Hoptowit's children. What alleged crime are they guilty of? Shame on your reporting Mr. Welter.

I agree that the children shouldn't suffer for the parents crime.
I know that it upset my daughter very much when I went to jail for DV and yes I deserved it. I had a nervous breakdown and my wife just happened to be the one I lashed out on. No one was hurt physically, but it did do a lot of damage emotionally to all of us. Thank God that I was in jail and could get help.
