FRRPD debt weighs on interim manager

Great job Dr. Remley! What else how the district been hiding? Time will tell what the old board did without public review. How did the old board vote for a purchase that would put them $40,000 in the hole each month? How did FRRPD get a loan for this if they couldn't make the payments? Who submitted the financials to get the loan and were they accurate? Someone should be held accountable... It's a federal loan so perhaps this should be investigated by the feds..

Great to have Dr. Remley on board. I voted for new leadership on FRRPD to uncover what the board was hiding. How can a public agency make a $3.5 million purchase without a single public meeting? Who approved the loan and who benefited with commissions besides Marcia Carter? This is a slap in the face to taxpayers. The old board: Roger Soudan, Vene Thompson, Tamara Dorfman, Chair Jan Hill, and Loren Gill should be held accountable for violating the Brown Act and prosecuted for wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars along with the GM John Buck and Sheryl Manies.

There is a long laundry list of people you can blame for irresponsible spending at FRR&PD. But if you knew what you were talking about, you would know that staff have no say in how the taxpayers money is spent. Sheryl Manies is merely an Administrative Assistant. Don't point the finger at the park district staff.

I believe they are referring to Ms. Maines stint as "Interim General Manager" for 5 months in the last part of 2009. That being said, any purchase she approved had to also be approved by the Board of Directors.

Also, please take into consideration that Ms. Maines did this interim job under very stressful circumstances and had no obligation to do so. She did her best to help keep the district afloat while the board was searching for a new manager. I doubt that she was making $308 a day while performing this interim position as well as her own job. Back off of ALL of the staff.

There are board members and staff that are clearly responsible for illegal spending of taxpayer money. City of Bell comes to mind. Roger Soudan, Jan Hill, Vene Thompson, Loren Hill and Tamara Dorfman, with John Buck and Sheryl Manies knowingly violated the Brown Act and lied about computer "server malfunctions" as the reason the Brown Act violation occurred. We know the "server" prob never happened. A loan to purchase the gym for $3.5 million has FRRPD in possible bankruptcy. Those responsible should be prosecuted by the DA and whoever submitted federal loan paperwork should be looked at for fraud. Why did the board approve a purchase when they could not pay for it?

Well, after nearly 2 years of the "new" Board FRRPD is mired in debt. The finances remain in the negative month to month and the recent loan modification is an abosolute joke. Taking the two 1 million dollar at 2% loans under Sharkey and adding them to the 3.4 million dollar 6.5% loan for the Gymnastic Academy to reduce the monthly loan payments, extend the payments and have a nearly 3/4 of a million dollar balloon payment was insane. Yes, again I say we need to give the FRRPD a chance, but the taxpayer is fed up with the shell game. In the upcoming election a new board is the only option. Out with TJ Jensen, John Allen and Chris Poblano; these are the continuation of the original group of 3 which included Bob Sharkey, and must be stopped in the November election. They have constantly promoted spending and are responsible for the added debt, non revenue producing programs and the inability to pay down the debt.
