a gps device on a windshield is probably cause for the dog to search the car?
Ridiculous.
repeal prohibition!!
The dog provided the probable cause. It is not considered a "search" have a dog walk around the exterior of a car. Anything observable from outside the vehicle, including anything that can be smelled by a trained dog, is not considered a "search."

Good on ya cop!
I'm not a cop - just tired of the dirtbag drug dealers invading the neighborhoods when there happens to be a rental house available. So anytime one of them gets arrested, I'm all for it.

Thanks Mark for pointing that out. I wish more people understood the law.:)

The US Supreme Court case Illinois v. Caballes (2005) provides for exactly what Mark is saying regarding what is and is not considered a search.

Cops don't always know the law, either. Don't be surprised if this does not find its way to court.

that you people don't know your own rights. The guy's just doing his job, it's in the description, get over it. I bet you wouldn't be saying that if someone you cared about died tomorrow because he hadn't arrested that guy and that guy drove into and killed a loved one because he was high huh? Face it, we know how much drugs there are out there. We just prefer not to turn to a plant, or grass to create happiness. You're all a joke.

So where are you suppose to mount the GPS?
I agree w/legalizing pot! People are never gonna stop smoking/growing it so it will be a continuoues battle. Legalize it that way the state can make money off of it like booze and cigarettes, which to me are way worse then pot.
That sucks for the guy that got pulled over and busted though.

excellent job Dave!! Proud of ya man.
to all of you bashing him and our law enforcement, go take a leap of a cliff, he and his partner was doing their jobs and found a deadbeat that can't get a real job like some of us have. Most of you are the first person to say good job to the law enforcement if they are there for you and your rightful property, but bash them when you screw up and deserve a visit from your local cop or parole/probation officer.

1) Within a "seven-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield" on the passenger side

2) Within a "five-inch square in the lower corner" on the driver's side.
