Great to see the state so united in common purpose, against an arrogant, incompetent, deceitful and unscrupulous operator ...who cares nothing for the safety of the people of southern Vermont and the surrounding states.
Kudos to Peter Shumlin, John Campbell and to the activists of Windham County who have held Entergy accountable. This is the beginning of the end of Vermont's nuclear nightmare. 2012 can't come too soon.

In all seriousness, let's hope this IS the beginning of the end of VY.

Entergy is not a friend of Vermont or anyone else. Its an energy company and its only goal is to make money. When this aging plant finally springs a leak and sends radioactive water into the gound, making that whole part of Vermont uninhabitable they'll walk away and declare bankrupcy. Nuclear power is free of greenhouse gases but an aging plant like this one is not safe and should be closed, dismantled and carried away to a place where it won't hurt anyone.

Entergy's CEO stated a few weeks ago - I think it was to the Wall Street Journal - that closing Yankee would have no effect on their bottom line. He said they're only breaking even on operating it. So how could Entergy sue Vermont for closing it, when it won't result in any loss to Entergy, according to their own CEO?

VY currently sells most of its power for less than market rates i.e., 0.04 $/kw-hr. This has saved consumers millions and millions but you won't hear the antis talk about that.

Have no fear anti-nuke whiners, Vermont Yankee is not going to close and you can continue to whine. The Obama administration will not allow VY to stop making clean energy. A few calls to your feckless politicians threatening to cut federal money to the welfare state of Vermont and those wimps will go along.

Looks as if Entergy is bringing out the dumber pro VY people. You don't agree with me so you are an anti nuke whiner. LOL. That'll learn us. We are supposed to be insulted being called a 'welfare state'. LOL. George Washington said he has never met such an ill mannered uncouth bunch of rebels than Vermonters. Ethan Allen had him by the short ones threatening to join Canada in the Revolution. Washington was cowed. So whoever you are with an ISP from North Carolina, you don't know who you are dealing with. We've been called all kinds of names and we don't care. The Obama Administration will go the way of George Washington's attempts to cow us. We won't be cowed into believing what you think we should believe by a bunch of lying Entergy corporate clowns. We are concerned about our own welfare from that crumbling leaking piece of crap and not some garbage being spewed by an anonymous poster. We aren't stupid. We see such posts as yours as another sour grapes nuke plant employee. Call us whatever you want. We don't care.

I don't know anything about nuclear power and this on-going debate about VY. But one thing I do know, is to never trust a politician.

Its funny how Shumlin complains that the rate for power from VY will go up to 6 cents per KW-hr. Yet if anyone bothered to read the "green power" bill he voted for it sets the standard rate for solar energy at 30 cents per KW-hr, wind at 15 cents per kw hr..... Never mind the Vermont Legislature still has not negotiated a new contract with Quebec Hydro(which supplies 67% of Vermont power)and the contract is due to expire in 2012. So if VY closes expect to get raked over the coals for electricity. Same thing happened in California in the early 2000's when they dumped too much in state generation.

As I said, I don't know enough about the issue to say I trust or do not trust them. Therefore, I make no judgements. If you don't trust them, you must understand the issue better than me. Good for you.

You act like this is something new. They have and always have been against nuclear power. They have been aided by a nonstop campaign by the media. The Brattleboro Reformer is more like the Valley Advocate than a real small town newspaper. They haven't had an unbiased story or opinion about VY for 20 years.

Joe the same goes for you. As soon as you start trotting out the emotional hyperbole and insults your own credibility is diminished.
