For years doctors did not take this disease seriously. Finally, they are realizing the toll it takes on patients, their families, and their financial situations. I would love to shove this article up the noses of those doctors who thought it was all in my head. It is a disorder of the Central Nervous System - one you can not help. While Lyrica worked very well on the pain, it caused other side effects I couldn't tolerate.

I agree, it is an awful disese, you look fine and hurt like heck, and there is little anyone can do for you. Noone understands why you are too tired and in pain.

I believe I have had fibermyalgia for almosst all my life. As a child of 3 I had marlaria fever and almost died. After that I have always had trouble sleeping.I would dream terrible dreams almost every night and would go get in bed with my mother for comfort.
As a adult and raising my family I slept for 4 or 5 hours and was tired and in pain all the time. I had a appt for a chiropractor once a week for several years.
was only about 20 years ago a doctor called it fibromyalgia.
I take a amitriptilyne before going to bed. It is suppose to help me stay asleep but is not a sleeping pill. The only think it really helped elimitate were my bad dreams. I am 76 years old , I still have a lot of pain and have learned to live with it, What really gets me down is feeling tired all the time.

I just found an article on the internet in a medical sleep journal, where they took about 27 women with Fibromyalgia and almost everyone of them had sleep apnea. As a FMS patient, I can tell you that a CPAP has helped me sleep better. Not well, but it has helped. I was waking up 100 times a night and did not know it. FMS has been classified by specialists as a neurological disorder. Ask your dr. for a sleep study and if he/she is not a fibro specialist, google "fibromyalgia sleep apena" and take print outs in with you. There are doctors who specialize in FMS, locate a support group and ask for recomendations. The things that help me most are Temazepam or Trazedone for sleep, amitryptiline is common is FMS. The best drug right now is Lyrica, for pain of FMS. If you have restless leg syndrome it can make it worse, but worth a try. Bless you.

I've been suffering from FMS for about 4 years now. The last few years have been spent researching and going to all kinds of doctors. It's been very exhausting and lonely as well. I recently came across Jacob Teitelbaum's book, "From Fatigued To Fantastic". It has helpful information. Also, check his website www.vitality101.com
Blessings!
