I knew it! When this story first happened that he was an effing perv. Why would an adult man be taking a cruise with a 16 year old. Should have left him floating at sea.

It's about time that they arrested this guy. All the stories that was told previouly when the incident happen were all lies. There are thing that happen on this ship that carnival and the police are stili hidding.

I Know these thing because I was on that ship and his cabin was one door away from mines. So I heard and saw everything that happen that night.

I'm white and I've never been involved in any crime...except for that altar boy thing. He and the other 14 of them were lying. I was merely counseling them. Damn! Never thought about a cruise ship!

OK - so the guy gave beer to underage kids - not bright, not legal, and sure as hell not at all uncommon. And he may have ( have to guess since no details are provided ) masturbated or fellated one or several boys - not legal in FL with 16 year olds, but legal in many other places, and sure as hell not at all uncommon..........

But I would bet the farm that none of these kids would have ratted on him if the police had not actively hounded and thraetened them. The story about pretending to be drunk sound like an attempt to protect the story teller from prosecution..........

Are there no REAL crimes for the police to investigate, that they have to create victims and crimes in order to satisfy the media?

This is just another piece of evidence detailing the sad state of parenting in the US. Where are those incredibly supportive parents form the inital story now?

Bwtween the lines, it sounds like the victims in this situation are not without some issues either. The alcohol story sounds half baked unless this is the short version. WHere is the part about I woke to find him imposing himself on me and freaked out. Instead, we hear that on the third occasion the victim played possum and still didn't freak out.

While, as a previous poster has noted, the providing of alcohol to minors is far from rare, from Mr. Mankamyer's other reported behaviors it would seem that he is most definitely not the epitome of stability and good judgment. However, there is another larger question that surfaces here, the rights of boys to their own sexuality.-----Paragraph break-----

There is an urban myth that all sexually expressed boyhood relationships with older males are intrinsically harmful. This notion, however, is not based on empirical research and scientific logic, but on ideological fabrications that co-evolved in the 1970s with the "Moral Panic" described in Phillip Jenkins’ book of that name. This misconception has been perpetuated and enhanced by an unlikely combination of right wing politicians, religionists, malignant feminists, and psychologists who have created their own sub discipline of "sexual victimology." Another major player and beneficiary is the enormously profitable "child sex abuse industry," which has created -----Paragraph break-----

Harris Mirkin, noted author of The Patterns of Sexual Politics (1999, Journal of Homosexuality 37 2), has noted that "... laws seemingly designed for the protection of the young are really intended to control them." Bruce Rind et al have demonstrated that the majority of sexual contacts between boys and older person are non-negative (1998, A Meta-Analytic Examination of Assumed Properties of Child Sexual Abuse Using College Samples. Psychological Bulletin 124 1), and David Riegel has conducted research indicating that such contacts do not predispose to pedosexuality (2004, "Abused to Abuser": An examination of New Non-Clinical and Non-Prison Data. Journal of Psychology and Human Sexuality 18 4). Additionally, Larry Constantine has observed that "Negative reactions of parents [and other adults]... to a child's sexual encounters, aside from their function of inducing guilt, can be ... the most psychonoxious aspect of the entire experience (1981, The Effects of Early Sexual Experiences. In Children and Sex, Constantine, L. and Martinson, F.(Eds.) Boston: Little, Brown, and Company). All of these can be verified with a Google search on the names or article titles.-----Paragraph break-----

Perhaps, in spite of the taboos so prevalent in western society, it is possible that boys - and all minors - are intrinsically entitled to the basic human right to explore and enjoy their sexuality as they see fit and with whomever they choose, so long as they do no real harm (as opposed to culturally imagined harm) to others or to themselves? Perhaps by denying a boy this basic human right to his own sexuality, we are denying his humanity? Perhaps we, as a supposedly open-minded and intelligent society, need to be more questioning and introspective, and less blindly reactive?

Veredicus sounds like a memeber of NAMBLA who happens to have a degree in psychology. Any sexual relationship between any underage minor and an adult in inappropriate.

Is anyone really surprised?

I would be dumbfounded if a 16 year old boy didn't have an inkling of what was going to happen on that cruise. Likewise I suspect that the man had a pretty good idea (if he wasn't certain) that he would have a willing partner on his trip.

I be astounded if the boy's parents didn't think that something was amiss when a man living in a trailer would be so generous to just take some kid on a cruise with no ulterior motive.

Why? Where is your evidence, your logic? Because you say so? Frankly, my dear,……
